This packet will include a guild for you and your families on how to be better prepare yourself during an evaluation of a hurricane. Remember, Hurricanes are dangerous and unpredictable. Do you need two hearing aids? Does the high cost of hearing aids prohibit you from being
able to purchase two? Do you need a resource to help you get two hearing aids?
DSDHH may be able to assist NC residents who need ONE hearing aid for telephone com-munications access. However many hard of hearing individuals DO NOT need hearing aids for phone use or they require TWO hearing aids. DSDHH staff maintains an up to date list of providers and services that may be a better fit for your individual needs than those offered by DSDHH. Things to consider may include hearing loss that occurred during active military ser-vice or hearing loss that affects your employability or ability to obtain an education to enhance your employment. A quick call to 800-205-9915 can help determine which services are best for you.

INFORMATION SESSIONS are meetings for Deaf, Hard of Hearing, Deaf-Blind and Speech Impaired citizens of North Carolina and their families to learn more about DSDHH services. These sessions are required for people who need equipment in order to use the telephone and want to apply through the Equipment Distribution Service. Course Description A real time interpreting experience for both expressive and receptive as entertainment is pro-vided by the Deaf Community at a local restaurant. Current interpreters and interpreter stu-dents will have an opportunity to voice and sign in a safe environment. They will have a vari-ety to choose from as performances will include poetry, original song writing, jokes and story telling. Hearing audience members will be offered the opportunity to share their talents which interpreters will produce in ASL. As a group, the participants will discuss their experience. The facilitator will guide the discus‐sion as needed.
Educational Objectives As a result of this experience, participants should be able to: ..develop confidence to voice for a Deaf person ..produce ASL from a hearing person ..identify styles of signing ..recognize strengths and weakness of their work ..increase awareness for the need to apply cultural information during the interpreting process
