STOCKDALE — Ethan Crouch gave it his all June 15 to win the bareback riding contest during the 69th an-nual Stockdale Watermelon Jubilee Rodeo, held June 14-15. Former high school rodeo con-testants competed against local cow-boys/cowgirls and others to gain points on the rodeo circuit. Senisa Blandford won fi rst in the breakaway competition, while Kelby Crow placed third in the calf roping. See “Watermelon Jubilee Rodeo re-sults” for a list of winners. The Jubilee was dedicated to Rickey Neill, an agriculture teacher for 25 years, who is battling cancer. Also during the opening ceremo-nies, Laken Snyder was crowned Miss Rodeo Stockdale; Sydney Dockery, Miss Rodeo Princess; Careum Lambeck, Little Miss Rodeo; and Brayden Dillingham, Little Mr. Rodeo. More royalty was crowned, this time Chris Oltmann of Nixon, who earned the title of Watermelon Jubilee King for his watermelon
weighing 64.4 pounds. Last year’s king Jimmy Hernandez Jr. of Pandora came in second with his 44-pound watermelon. During the scholar-ship auction, the cham-pion melons brought in $1,500 and $1,000, re-spectively. pkopecki@wcn-
