Agenda
• Introduction
• Product Overview
• Configuration
• Upgrade Considerations
• Future Enhancements
• Q&A
3
• Help drive Creo sales – Enable partners to better compete with CAD/PDM bundles when selling CAD
(SolidWorks/EPDM, Inventor/Vault)
• Get into the door in more PDM deals – Offer smaller and very price conscious customers a package with better value
• Improve PDMLink upsell opportunities – Neutralize initial cost concerns with PDM Essentials and then sell the value of PLM and what
PDMLink has to offer.
• Increase share in SMB market – Broaden revenue stream to reduce revenue risk
– Participate in growth of smaller businesses which typically can grow at much greater rates than large enterprises
– Respond to repeated requests by Advisory Council Partners to provide PDM Solution for SMB
– Provide vehicle to better leverage partner capabilities to supplement direct revenue
• Decrease sales cycle, time to value and cost of ownership – Provide a package that is easy to buy, quick to deploy and quick to realize value in production
PDM Essentials Business Goals
5
• Existing Creo customer
• Initial interest in only CAD data
management
• Price conscious
• Small design team—average seats
purchased per customer = 5.6
• Single site development—no need
for replication or global licenses
• Little or no IT support—familiar,
Windows OS preferred

• Windchill is created as a Windows service
• A standard parts library is pre-defined based on library template
• Groups, shared teams with role groups and profiles are pre-defined and
associated
• A pre-defined lifecycle is created for CAD documents
• A pre-defined product template is created that uses the pre-defined shared
team and associated access policies
• Access control policies are defined for shared library team and shared
product team
• Attributes are pre-defined for CAD Documents and these attributes are
displayed in a pre-defined workspace view.
Pre-defined environment ready for use
26
Windchill server is automatically configured as a Windows Service
The Windchill service starts automatically when the server is
booted and starts the directory server, Apache/Tomcat server
and Windchill server manager and method server in the
proper order.
27
A Parts Catalog library is pre-defined based on a Team
Library template and a shared team Library Team.
All non-administrative roles have only read access to this
library and read-access only to CAD documents in a released
state
Pre-defined Parts Catalog library
28
The Team Product template associates the shared team
Product Team with each product created.
This product team includes the roles defined in the participants
step of the Configuration Assistant and ensures that the
members of each role/group have the appropriate access for
each life cycle state.

Product Team is shared team is associated with
product template and defines membership in each
product instance
LIbrary Team is shared team is associated with Library
template and defines membership in Parts Catalog
and any other library created using the Team Library
template
Pre-defined teams shared across products
32
Shared team associated with Pre-defined parts library
The Shared Team Groups such a CAD Author are
automatically populated during the participants step
of the configuration assistant.
The Shared Team defines access control rules for
each role based on lifecycle state.
Each group is also associated with a profile that limits
visibility to information and actions in the interface
based on role.
Pre-defined team with predefined role/groups
33
These pre-defined groups are automatically created
and populated with the role/group members during
the configuration assistant participants step.
These groups are pre-populated in the Product and
Library teams under a role of the same name
These groups are associated with a profile which
limits visibility to information and actions in the web
interfaces based on role.
Pre-defined role/groups and associated profiles
34
The highlighted rows are the pre-defined profiles
that are defined and associated with the pre-
defined groups and shared team roles of the same
name.
These profiles limit visibility to information and
actions in the web interfaces
Pre-defined profiles provide tailored experience for each role
35
This CAD Data Management lifecycle
is automatically created and associated
with CAD Document types
The lifecycle is configured for
maximum flexibility out of the box and
supports all transitions for Promote
and Set State operations.
This can be easily tailored to allow
fewer transitions for more restrictive
behavior.

report
License usage report shows peak concurrent
use for each day of month
Any user that accessed the server through a
web or CAD client within a half hour period
is considered an active user.
This report shows the ½ hour period in the
day with the maximum number of
concurrently active unique users
42
• CAD User – A license is consumed as long as the Creo application or Workgroup Manager (for AutoCAD,
Inventor and SolidWorks) is running and has an active connection to the PDM Essentials server.
– A license is released when the user exits the CAD application (and provided that user does not
also have a browser session with Windchill where they made a server request in the past ½
hour
• Browser User – A license is consumed when a unique user logs into PDM Essentials
– A license is released when no new server requests are made 30 minutes after the last request
for that unique user. A unique user can have any number of separate browser instances or
sessions. It is only the accesses by that unique user to the server within a 30 minute period that
constitute access.
See the table on following page with an example of how a number of users interact with the
system over time

• Pro/INTRALINK Upgrade Recommendation – Pro/INTRALINK Multi-site PDMLink PDM Essentials does not support replication
– Pro/INTRALINK Single-site PDMLink Windchill migrators do not support migration to PDM
Essentials
• Pro/INTRALINK Upgrade Exception Where upgrade to PDM Essentials may be considered
– Customer has single-site or has multi-site but is not using and does not need replication
capability
– and…Customer has 10 seats or less
– and…Customer does not want or expect to need PDMLink functionality such as part or change
management in next two years
– and…Customer does not need to migrate all versions to PDM Essentials and is willing to
manually migrate latest version on demand (such as to do all new project work on PDM
Essentials and to keep Pro/I 3.x running for some period until needed content is manually
migrated to PDM Essentials)
