A WORD FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Two of our students, Mardi and Shkeira, have gone to Tirranna today to attend a debating workshop. I’m sure they will bring back invaluable skills to share with the other students. Our playground and classroom behaviour program is off to a good start. A few students are still coming to terms with expectations, but most have taken on board the values of our school; respect, responsibility and excellence. From next week, if your child receives 5 mentions in a week on either the playground behaviour sheet or the classroom sheet, you will receive an email. We need your assistance in supporting our P & C. Please come along to the meeting next Wednesday and find out how you can help support our school community.

Book club brochure has been enclosed, please have all orders completed by Thursday 21st March 2019.

P&C MEETING Parent and Citizen (P&C) meeting next meeting will be Monday 20th March, 2019. The P & C will be again trying to fill the 3 positions, being President, Secretary and Treasurer. Anyone who would be interested in taking on a position and continuing on the great work that the P & C has done over a very long time, please come along to this meeting.

Parents, grandparents and community are encouraged to come along. Everyone, including children are welcome to join us.

PBL UPDATE As part of our positive behaviour for learning (PBL) program, we have begun giving out assembly and playground tokens. These tokens are given to students who display our three core school values of respect, responsibility and excellence on the playground or when returning to lines after play. The tokens are then collected and included in a weekly raffle drawn on a Thursday morning. The winners of the raffle receive a $1.50 voucher to use at the school canteen for recess buy-up. The following students have already been lucky winners, and have used their voucher at recess buy-up:

Week 5: Jeremy (K-2) Week 6: Lacey (K-2) and Adelaide (3-6) Week 7: Samuel (K-2) and Jack (3-6) Congratulations to those students.

What’s Happening in 3 – 6 We have welcomed Charlie to our room for maths and reading groups this week. Our 3 – 6 students have been very supportive. Our students are enjoying the challenge of our maths problem solving activities, they certainly test our brain power.

What’s Happening in K – 2 K-2 were excited to welcome our newest class member to the class this week. Valerie is from Western Australia and was excited to start Kindergarten at Windellama. Welcome Valerie!

We have been focusing on learning our ‘Friends of Ten’ and ‘Friends of Twenty’ in Mathematics. Students have been using ten/twenty frames and counters to determine how many more they would need to make ten/twenty and then using these facts to find the missing number when solving problems, for example, 3 + __ = 10 or 13 + __ = 20. It was great to see Year One and Two students noticing patterns when adding to ten or twenty. Kindergarten have also been learning how to represent and form numbers correctly and have been having some great success while doing so.

Welcome to Kindergarten

Valerie.
