Changes to Drawings: See Attached Changes to Specifications: See attached General Notes/Clarifications: N/A
RFI Clarifications: (From RFI No. 05) BID PHASE REQUEST FOR INFORMATION No.05 August 06, 2019 PROJECT: Windham Senior and Community Center Project – 100% CD Bid Documents INFORMATION REQUESTED: 1. In addendum #3 document named ‘ADD No.03 – Specifications’, pdf page 54 under ‘Section 064023
Interior Architectural Woodwork’ we have the following questions: a) Paragraph ‘G’ adds the Sanitizer Station to the millwork bid package. This is not a millwork item.
Please remove this item from our section. Zlotnick
b) Paragraph ‘H’ adds the Wardrobe/Coat Hooks to the millwork bid package. This is an item that we would include if it was integral to our millwork (eg: inside a wardrobe cabinet) but that is not the case. These hooks seem to be intended to be applied directly to the wall on their own with no millwork behind them. This is not a millwork item. Please remove this item from our section.
Zlotnick 2. For the wood fireplace mantel shown in section on SKA-008, there is nothing noted telling us what is
supporting the mantel. Please advise what is required for supports including manufacturer and item number.
Fireplace Mantel supported by steel rod dowels for floating shelf condition, refer to revised SKA-008 for clarification
3. We are starting to put our bid package together. We cannot find the ‘BIDDER'S Pre-qualification
Statement’ form as noted to be attached to the bid documents on page 3 of the ‘Specification and Instructions to Bidders’. Please provide this form.
This BIDDER’S Pre-qualification Statement is a requirement for all bid packages with a value of $500,000 or more and can be printed from the DAS website f.
4. At the granite countertops the drawings show laminated edge details at ¾” thick stone. The specs
indicate 1 ¼” thick stone with a bullnose edge. Our suppliers can only find 1 ¼” thick material at the local distributors not ¾”. a) Please advise which thickness is correct, ¾” thickness or 1 ¼” thickness.
1-1/4” thick granite acceptable. Edge to be beveled at all locations except for the Lobby Coffee bar where the waterfall edge occurs.
b) Please advise which edge is correct, laminated edge or bullnose edge. Edge to be Beveled
5. Specifications 09 00 00 – Finish Schedule calls out the granite color as being ‘Nilo River’. Our suppliers are telling us that this is a discontinued color. Please advise which color we should allow for.
Use “AJ Brown” granite in lieu of specified “Nilo River”. Rep contact: Genrose Stone & Tile, Wenonah Leonetti, 860.324.1744.
6. Please confirm that there will be a forklift with long (8') forks on the jobsite. Each sub-contractor should carry all costs associated with their trade. 7. On drawing A7.8 detail #5 notes ‘HR1 WOOD HANDRAILS..’. Addendum #3 says that ‘HR1’ has been
deleted. Please advise if we are to include for ‘HR1’ handrail or they have actually been deleted. Addendum No. 03 has deleted all reference to HR1
8. In document named ‘ADD No.03 – RFI Responses’:
a) From RFI No.02, pdf page 8, question #57.1 – answer says ‘See revised door schedule. See attached submittal for general basis of design/reference’. When we look at the submittal there is not any useful information to show us how you want the wood door frame fabricated. Please provide section details including materials, dimensions and finishes.
See addenda 3 – refer to product data from submittal b) From RFI No.02, pdf page 8, question #57.2 - answer says ‘See door Schedule – Refer to
manufacturer technical product data’. There is nothing noted on the door schedule indicating how we are to fabricate the door frame. Please provide section details including materials, dimensions and finishes.
See addenda 3 – refer to product data from submittal
9. From RFI No.04, pdf page 26, question #31, reads ‘Mfg: Grainger, Product: Keyed-Alike Drawer Deadbolt Locks, size: to be coordinated with cabinet door thickness, finish: Bright Nickel’. We contacted Grainger but they tell us they do not have the lock specified in the required size for the drawer fronts. Please advise which lock we should use to suit the ¾” thick drawer fronts.
Use standard keyed lock for ¾” thick door. Basis of design: Hardware Hut, National Cabinet Lock, 1-3/16” Disc Tumbler Cylinder Cam Lock, Nickel, NCL-C8-53-C413A-14A.
10. Please verify that some of the specification sections do not apply to this project i.e. 232113 Hydronic Piping, 232300 Hydronic Pumps, 235216 Condensing Boilers, etc. If these specification sections do apply, please update drawings to show these systems in their entirety.
Some of the specification sections may not be required during initial construction but may be required in the future. Also, some of the mechanical components for the pool equipment may need to be covered by the pool consultant or mechanical contractor. Each contractor shall verify with GC for their trades full scope of work.
11. Per Spec Section 23 74 16 - 3.3 A, please verify who owns condensate drain piping, trap, and cleanout to nearest floor drain from the HVAC rooftop units. Detail 9 on drawing M-2.0 states the plumbing contractor is responsible. However, it states in HVAC specification section 237416 3.3A to install condensate drain, trap, and cleanout as well.
Bid per plans and specifications. Mechanical contractor shall install rooftop unit condensate drains. See revised sheet M-2.0 issued in Addendum 5
12. On drawing M-1.3 and M-3.1, please clarify if the ductwork connected to PAHU-1 will change in size
due to alternate #3 - ADD a 5th pool lane, where the size of the PAHU will be increased. Please advise.
Yes, PAHU-1 ductwork for the Add Alt. will change size, see note for duct sizes on plans, issued in Addendum #1.
13. On Drawing M-1.3 and M-3.1, please provide a schedule for any changes to FCU-2-1, FCU-2-2, and FCU-2-3 in regard to Alternate #4 - DEDUCT modified rec entrance in lieu of fitness bump out, where the size of DOAS-2 will be reduced. Also, does FCU-2-4 get deleted with the alternate? Please advise.
- See air balance schedule on Sheet M-6.1 - Alternate #4. FCU-2-2 cooling/heating capacities for base bid and Add ALT #4 will be the same, but the air flow for FCU-2-2 shall be balanced to the new air flowrates shown on sheet M-6.1-Alternate #4.
- FCU-2-4 will not be needed for Add ALT. #4.
14. Regarding the metal vented soffits detail 5/A5.6 and metal panel wood look ceiling system on 3/A4.1. I was only able to locate a specification for Linear metal soffits 074213.63. Is this for both details or is it only for 3/A4.1?
Yes, same soffit
15. In reference to addendum #3 question 69, the first three paragraphs to the architectural trusses seem to suggest there are trusses at both gable ends for each room (110A/110B, 132A/132B, 210), per the last sentence in each paragraph. Outboard of the gable ends are exposed straight web trusses for architectural aesthetics. Please verify the architect want trusses at the “hidden gables” for the rooms listed along grid lines 3, C.1, and A1.
The decorative / architectural trusses in the gable-ends are to be located only at the exterior-facing gable ends – the gable ends facing AWAY from the building. No architectural trusses on grid line 3, C.1, or A.1.
16. Please verify Sketch SKA-010 details are for the Exterior canopy trusses only Grids 5 to 4 . The all chord sizes changed and there is also an additional member at the base, this does conflict with the notes on the plan view S1.6, which list HSS 10x4x1/4 chords and webs.
Sheet S1.6 updated. See attached.
17. Please clarify if the Exterior Architectural trusses referenced in question 69 of Addendum 3 RFI 3 are shown in Sketches SKA-011 & 012 listed as GFRC and noted as fixed to the building, and are no longer part of bid package BP05A. The sections on S3.4 still reference HSS 10x4 chords and webs.
Sheet S3.0, S3.4, and S3.6 updated. Sheet S1.1 and 1.6 also updated with empty clouds to show removal of structural elements previously used to support exterior trusses. See attached.
18. It is my understanding that after reading the latest addenda #3, that the steel fabricators are responsible for the Tnemec Primers, and Aerolon Coatings, and the Painting contractors will field finish, these items, correct?
Clarification: Structural Steel – Bid Package 05A; shall include in their quotes, all work associated with Specification Sections 099600 High-Performance Coatings and 099713 Thermal Insulating Coating, as they relate to Structural Steel ONLY. All coats from primer to finish shall be shop applied and touched-up in the field. Painting – Bid Package 09E; shall exclude Specification Section 099600 High Performance Coatings and 099713 Thermal Insulating Coating, as they relate to structural steel ONLY. Clarification: Structural Steel – Bid Package 05A; shall supply and deliver metal decking for light gage metal
trusses. Gypsum Drywall – Bid Package 09A; shall receive, hoist and attach all metal decking over light gage metal trusses.
21. In Addendum-3 revised Section 090000 Finish Schedule on page 23 Finish SST1 was changed. Its
listed there under Division 06 Tiling I’m assuming it’s supposed to be Division 9 Tiling but it is not listed in Spec Section 093100 Tiling. Which Scope of Work is responsible for SST1 and should it be listed in Spec Section 093100 Tiling?
See finish schedule for revised product data in finish schedule. To be installed as a tile. 22. In the revised Addendum-3 Spec Section 093100 Tiling, Line 1.2 Summary A-6 added “Waterproofing
Membrane at Shower Walls” also on page 7 Line 2.3 it added CWT-3. In Addendum-3 Section 090000 Finish Schedule page 16 also added CWT-3 and at location it states “Shower Stalls”. There are 4 rooms with shower stalls 217, 218A, 218B, 219. The Addendum-3 revised Finish Schedule 090000 page 45 & 46 made no changes to the finishes at these rooms and still shows PTF2 Floors with PTB2 Base and no wall tile. There is also a note stating there are Acrylic Shower Surrounds. The wall elevations for these rooms also show Acrylic Shower Surrounds and no wall tile. a) Where is CWT-3 supposed to be installed?
CWT3- Ceramic Wall tile to be used in lieu of acrylic shower surround at all shower locations. Rooms updated in finish schedule.

Please refer to finish schedule (page 4, note 15)
24. At Room 110C Platform the Finish is WF1 for the platform and WF2 for the steps. The WF2 stair treads usually come straight and the steps at the front of the platform are curved. For the manufacturer to make these they will have to be mitered and finger jointed. If this is acceptable, they will need to know the radius of the steps in order to manufacture them. If not is it possible to make the steps straight and eliminate the radius?
Maintain the curving / radius of the steps. Construct with a radius of 67’ - 6”, or 14 degrees.
Question is a duplicate* 30. On Dwg S1.6 om Column lines 5-4 can you provide a detail for the Truss’s that are depicted on the

38. Note A1.1b has notes calling for wall padding at entire CMU perimeter. These pads are not shown on interior elevation 2/A7.14. a) Is this an error in the drawings, or are there no pads on this wall because of the existing
bleachers to be re-installed? This is a drawing error. Wall padding will be located at full interior perimeter of the CMU in the gym, as per note on floor plan on sheet A1.1b
b) Also, notes on A7.17 say that we can use the existing pads and the rest are to be new. c) Are we certain that using the existing pads is the best method for this project? If so, please send
an inventory list of the pads that are available for re-use and send photos of their condition. How about an allowance for this work? If so, please provide the allowance value for this work.
Yes, the owner wishes to re-use their existing wall pads from the current wrestling program. They have (104) pads that are 2’x6’ dimension. 56. Addendum 3 listed Specs for Security and Specialized Sound systems. Are these part of the electrical bid package? I can’t seem to locate any security drawings, can you please clarify?
Answer coming on Monday 8/12/19 57. The electrical contractor is the installer not the designer, so the project would be awarded and shop
drawings would be produced. Once approved by the engineer of record, THEN we would price this system that should have been designed by the engineer prior to the release of drawings to bid on. Will this design work be provided prior to the bid due date?
Answer coming on Monday 8/12/19 58. None of the lighting control symbols as they appear in detail 1/E-4.1 are indicated on the lighting
floor plans. Please clarify intent. Plans only show sensing devices and control switches, Intent is for energy controls provider to furnish detailed shop drawings with specific room controllers and fully detailed system.
Answer coming on Monday 8/12/19 59. The drawings for Division 27 and 28 specifications added to this project should be produced to show
what the intent is for the work required in the specification; can this be provided? Answer coming on Monday 8/12/19

61. Addendum #3, drawing 3/SKA-009 is not to scale (1/4"). Can you please provide a scale drawing or put dimensions on the panels?
POOL & GYM: Provide (30) 2’x4’ Tectum panels in EVERY OTHER truss, evenly spaced – see revised ceiling plan A2.2 attached.
62. Drawing E6.0 (riser) and Panelboard Schedules on E5.0, E5.1 and E5.2 do not correspond with one another, could you please clarify?
Answered in RFI 3: We do not see any discrepancies - provide specific details of any items that do NOT correspond between panel schedules on E5.0 through E5.2 and Riser diagram on E-6.0.
63. Section 260526 1.4.A.3 References a Building Ground Ring. There is also mention of this on drawing E6.0. Is a Building Ground Ring Required? If so, please provide a drawing showing the intent.
Answered in RFI 3: Intent of ground ring is for 4/0 Cu conductor 24” BFG and approx. 24” out from footer around entire building with exothermic welds to gas, water and fire protection services, where metallic pipes, and electric service ground, as well as to each of 10’-0” Long by 5/8” dia. ground rods at each exterior corner (Four (4) corners, plus four Porte Cochere columns, on EP-1.1 and five (5) corners on EP1.2.) Routing is specifically, as follows: Counter-clockwise direction from service transformer ground grid, to E and N corner of MULTI-FUNCTION FITNESS ACTIVITY (RM 210), Then to electric service ground, then to NW corner of POOL (Room 220A), then to SW and SE corner of GYMNASIUM (Room 214), then to South Porte-Cochere columns, and then on to SE corner of FIRE/WATER (Room 114,) and pipes, then on to SE corner of MULTI-PURPOSE 2 (Room 110B,) then to NE corner of MULTI-PURPOSE 1 (Room 110A,) then to NE corner of DRY-STORAGE (Room 112C,) then to the two North Porte-Cochere columns and finally back to the service transformer ground Grid.
64. Are we correct to assume that the Projectors, Smartboards, TV – Monitors and Computers are not part of this contract, that they are included in the Owners FF&E Technology Package?
Yes – those items will be in a separate FF&E / Tech. package. However, contractor is responsible for providing power and data to these locations, preparing them to receive the equipment etc. See previous addendums.
65. It appears the sprinklers have been removed from the Pool Area. NFPA 13 does not allow partially sprinklered buildings. Has the Fire Marshal given a special exemption for this? Please advise.
Several Sprinklers were removed from the Pool Area because they were inadvertently shown outside the building. The Pool Area is fully sprinklered.
66. The Addendum 3 plans show pendent sprinkler heads in the blade ceilings at the Soft Class/Library 130 and the Lobby 100. This will not work. Please advise.
Updated Drawing FP-1.1 to show upright sprinkler heads in Soft Class 130 and Lobby 100.
67. The RFI answers stipulate that the Fire Protection contractor owns the underground fire line to five feet outside the foundation, and the backflow preventer. The Addendum 3 plans still do not show this. Please advise.
Updated Drawings FP-001 and FP-1.1 to show the same.
68. A note has shown up on the reflected ceiling plans adding Tectum panels between the webbing of the trusses over the Pool and Gymnasium areas (see detail 3/SKA-009). This presents a problem for fire protection. Attached to this RFI No.05 are two drawings that show the only way possible to sprinkler these areas to meet NFPA 13 and this would require sprinklers in every single bay formed by the Tectum panels. Also, notice the direction of the sprinkler piping. This is the way we would run it to facilitate hanging. Please advise if this is acceptable.
We agree. Refer to attached sketches showing a different panel layout as proposed by the architect which will reduce the number of sprinkler heads.
