Snow bird season is coming to an end. Best wishes to all our 'birds' and have a safe trip home. Remember, this season is followed by SUMMER, and if it is like last summer, it will be a hot one. Be sure your AC unit is serviced and is in good repair. There are multiple AC condensers (the unit in the wall) in very bad condition. Should your AC unit fail you will be faced with a costly repair bill when the MOLD takes over. Better to replace your unit now than to be sorry next winter. Also, be sure to inform Keys Management of your departure date so that correspondence can be sent to your home address.

The Windjammer Board is happy to announce that the Chematics project has passed inspection with the City of Cape Canaveral. An inspection was conducted on March 3, 2017 on the repairs conducted under the permit. The installation was found to be in compliance with the applicable codes. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Our own Steve Snider and his singing partner Eve entertained us at Happy Hour!

From oldies for the old folks to newer songs – we even sang along!

Welcome to New Residents and Owners! "Our landing at the Windjammer resurrects many fond memories of my youth on Cape Cod - and we're looking forward to making many more here together." David Sherman Kornelia Marczewski and David Sherman left the cold weather behind in Connecticut this winter. Dave stated they bought unit 508 sight unseen in November of 2015 after looking at both the East and West Coast of Florida. Kornelia has a son who currently lives in Titusville (formerly in Melbourne) so they have familiarity with our Space Coast. The couple was naturally drawn to the beauty of the ocean and residential area in Cape Canaveral. David and Kornelia were commuting here from Connecticut this past year to supervise a lengthy rehab process which thankfully is almost complete. The couple then sold homes, packed a moving truck, held a very beautiful, 16 y/o cockapoo named Tiny and headed down to their new permanent home at the Windjammer in January 2017. David is a Professional Land Surveyor, formerly employed with the State of Connecticut as a Transportation Supervising Engineer, where he specialized in large scale GPS/Terrestrial survey control network design. He is currently preparing for the Florida jurisdictional exam. Kornelia took an early retirement from her Accounting Associate position at ORAFOL Americas Inc., and is busy full time settling into their new home as well as exploring our Space Coast area. Please introduce yourself and give a warm welcome to your new neighbors Kornelia, David and Tiny.

*********************************************** Our next welcome goes to Art Castner and his sons. One can find Art sunning at our beautiful pool when his busy schedule permits. He is the President of National General Lender Services; working with major banks regarding home owner’s insurance requirements. His fast paced, challenging work has him flying across the country frequently. He states he loves returning home to his “slice of Heaven” for relaxation and the amazing beauty of our space coast. Art grew up in Daytona Beach and attended undergraduate college at Nova Southeastern University and then received his Law Degree from the University of Florida. He waited until his

youngest son Mathew graduated from high school, just north of Atlanta, Georgia to make the move back home to Florida’s eastern shore last year. Art loves sports, a very healthy lifestyle, and most importantly, spending as much time as possible with his three sons – Chris & Andrew (twins) and Matthew. Chris attends Florida Gulf Cost University in Fort Myers. Andrew attends Georgia State in Atlanta. His youngest, Mathew is a freshman at University of Cumberlands in Kentucky and a starting football player for the college team. He made 2nd Team all-conference this past season at Cumberlands. Art made it a priority to attend every game this year Please say Hi to Art Castner, Chris, Andrew and Matthew when you see them and give them all a warm welcome to the Windjammer Community.

We also welcome new owners Michelle and Stephen Pleadwell. They currently live in Toronto and, as Michelle says, “since we’re nowhere near retirement, we’ll be visitors for a while.

“ My husband and I wanted to purchase something on the ocean

in Florida and the fact that he is a super techy nerd, the Kennedy space center was exciting to him.” Stephen is a robotic/computer engineer, Michelle works recruiting others in his profession. They have 2 grown daughters. Both Michelle and Stephen enjoy staying fit and travelling. Stephen is a triathlete and Michelle is an avid cook and baker.

A hearty welcome to

all of our new owners

and residents!

Your Balcony Remember the recent concrete restoration project? Keeping moisture absorbing rugs/carpets off the balconies will help preserve the protective coating on the balcony surface and help delay this dreaded (and expensive) nightmare. Also, please be courteous and not shake rugs or sweep rubble, even sand, off your balcony. Our winds generally blow in from the ocean, and anything you sweep off your balcony lands on the balconies and patios below you. Please advise any cleaning staff of this rule.

Windjammer Herb

Garden Judy Garvey has planted an array of culinary herbs for everyone to use. They’re located in the pool area and just outside the Oceanside gate to the pool. Please feel free to enjoy a snip of the herbs for your cooking delight. Judy’s planted mint and rosemary and sage and basil and other herbs for us! A hearty round of thanks to Judy!!!

Mediterranean Grill

Pita Paradise is located in Cocoa Beach, on 520, just west of A1A, in a strip mall, but don’t let that fool you! The first surprise is when you enter and realize you’re in a full restaurant, not just a strip mall take out eatery. The tables are well set and the Middle Eastern music softly playing sets the tone.

The restaurant specializes in Lebanese-Mediterranean foods, and also includes vegetarian and vegan gluten free items. We started with an appetizer of “Grandma’s Eggplant”. What a treat! Well seasoned fresh ingredients with fresh pita bread for dipping. And then the meal! We ordered the mixed grill, as first timers, to get a sample of different foods. It included an amazing kabob of chicken, one of beef, and one of kafte, a chopped and seasoned beef, with fresh grilled vegetables and lightly seasoned yellow rice. There were bowls of garlic cream sauce and dill yogurt, adding to the wonderful array of tastes. The NYers among us will understand when I say the kafte brought me back to aromatic NY street vendors! Perfect!! The portions are large, and we brought home plenty for the next day. I’m just sorry that I didn’t leave room for chocolate baklava!

IT’S SEA TURTLE TIME! We are blessed to live in Brevard County, the largest loggerhead and green sea turtle nesting area in the world. With this treasure comes responsibility as humans to protect the turtles, their nests, their eggs, and hatchlings. Sea turtle nesting season is May 1 to October 31 and we can help ensure a successful nesting season to preserve these species.

One of our most critical actions involves lights. The female turtles will not nest and lay eggs in areas with lights. When the baby turtles hatch, they head for the moonlit ocean. Porchlights and other lights can cause the hatchlings to head for them and they are too weak to head back to the ocean if they start out wrong. Please follow these rules to do your part in helping these beautiful creatures: • Lights out on the beach. Keep moveable lamps and light fixtures away from windows. Use curtains, blinds and turn off unnecessary lights. If you’re walking on the beach at night, turn off flashlights, video cameras and other instruments that illuminate. Patio lights should be left off unless you have a sea turtle safe bulb or fixture. • Don’t dig holes above the high tide line (it could trap turtles and their hatchlings). • Fill in any holes you made or you see before leaving the beach. • Keep away from the sea turtles and their hatchlings. If you find a sick or injured sea turtle, immediately call (321) 676-1701 or (321) 206-0646. Give them the location, condition of the turtle and your name. If you find a hatchling: • Don’t remove it from the beach. • Don’t put it in water or air conditioning. • Call (321) 676-1701 or (321) 206-0646. An exposed nest: • Don’t touch the eggs because you can kill the babies. • Call (321) 676-1701, (321) 206-0646, (888) 404-3922 or the police. If you see anyone harassing a nest or disturbing a sea turtle, call (321) 259-0004.
