Windows 8 has some learning curve associated with it, but once you get

hand on how it works (it will take around a week or two), you will find

that Windows 8 is overall much simpler to use and is much better

looking compared to earlier Windows

Windows 8 is a latest version of the series Microsoft Windows Operating System, produced by Microsoft.Development of Windows 8 started before the release of its predecessor, Windows 7, in 2009. Its existence was first announced at Consumer Electronics Show(C.E.S.) in Las Vegas 2011The operating system was released to manufacturing on August 1, 2012, and was released for general availability on October 26, 2012.Windows 8 introduces a new touch-friendly shell and user interface, featuring a new Start screen with a grid of dynamically updating tiles that represent applications.

System requirements are lower then other OS(Windows 7).The new OS is REALLY FAST and FLUID.Based on HTML-5 and JavaScript .Although it is touch oriented, it works equally well with a mouse and keyboard.Internet Explorer 10 is introduced with Windows 8.It requires a minimum of 1366 x 768 resolution for the best Windows 8 experience.It could go from a cold boot to the Start screen in under 6 seconds.

Windows 8 Highlighted Features

ARM (Advance RISC (Reduced Instruction Set Machine Computer) Machine) Processor SupportEveryone wants to be on the tablet nowadays. To fully support mobile devices, it’s important for an OS to fully support ARM-based CPUs. If Microsoft can keep the hardware requirements under control, it may eventually compete with smartphone platforms such as iOS and Android.

Better Touch Interface: The design elements, such as login screen, browser, task manager, file explorer and others are fully optimized for touch interface. It was also revealed that the login screen can be unlocked using pattern (finger gestures), in the same way as an Android phone does.

The ribbons menu you see in the Microsoft Office 2007 and 2010 is implemented more widely in Windows 8. Luckily, if you dislike the interface enhancement, you can revert these menus to the Windows 7-style interface.Improved Task Manager:

Advantages of windows 8 over other OS:

• It has the ability to create a Portable Workspace, an installation of Windows 8 on a USB storage device.

• It includes a ribbon interface for Windows Explorer, a PDF reader called Modern Reader, an updated task manager called Modern Task Manager and native ISO mounting. The ability to pause file transfers, and improvements in the ability to manage conflicts when copying files.

• Windows 8 have built in Internet Explorer 10 which has more advance features, and it provides faster browsing and better performance.

• Windows 8 have ISO verifier, which verifies the ISO image and says whether it is a valid image or not.

• It is optimized for touch screen devices.• Decrease in the boot time, the boot time is decreased to 10-15

secs.

The Windows Store is a digital distribution platform in Microsoft's Windows 8 and Windows RT operating system.

Market Performance :

Microsoft says that 4 million users upgraded to Windows 8 over the weekend after its release.

On November 27, 2012, Microsoft announced that it has sold 40 million licenses of Windows 8 in the first month, surpassing the pace of Windows 7.

This capped the first year of declining PC sales to the Asia Pacific region, as users switched to Apple and Android products instead of Microsoft.

As of February 2013, Windows 8 has 2.6% market penetration as in February, 2013.
