W HY DO INSTALL PROGRAMS A SK ME TO CLOSE EVERYTHING ELSE?

When you install software on your machine, you are usually asked to close the other

running.

1) Some install programs require you to reboot your operating system when the install is

done. So, you would have to close the other programs down anyway.

2) Some install programs may modify parts of the programs currently running, and may even

modify part of your operating system. You may think, "Hey, I'm running a word

processor. Why should installing a spreadsheet require me to close my document?"

Unfortunately, with today's world of programs consisting of dozens, perhaps hundreds of

pieces, there may be code shared by your word processor and the spreadsheet that you are

trying to install.

3) What if the install program crashes? Installer programs are notorious for modifying key

Operating system components. They might modify something that causes your system to

Crash and any work you may have done in your currently open applications would be lost.

So play it safe - close down other applications before running installers.

What can we do with Netsh.exe?

1. netsh interface ip show config

With Netsh.exe, you can easily configure your computer's IP address and other TCP/IP related

settings.

The following command configures the interface named Local Area Connection with the static I

address 192.168.0.100, the subnet mask of 255.255.255.0, and a default Gateway of 192.168.0.1

Netsh.exe can be also usefu l in certain scenarios such as when you have a p ortablecompu ter that needs to be relocated between 2 or m ore o ffice locations, while stillmaintaining a specific and static IP address configuration. W ith Netsh.exe, you caneasily save and restore the appro priate network configuration.

First, connect your portable computer to location #1, and then manually configure the required

settings (such as the IP address, Subnet Mask, Default Gateway, DNS and WINS addresses).

Now, you n eed to expor t your cur rent IP settings to a text file.

Use the following command :

netsh -c interface dump > c:\location1.txt

When you reach location #2, do the same thing, only keep the new settings to a different file:

netsh -c interface dump > c:\location2.txt

You can go on with any other location you may need, but we'll keep it simple and only use 2

examples. Now, whenever you need to quickly import your IP settings and change them between

location #1 and location #2, just enter the following command in a Command Prompt window

NETSH Comm and to Change from Static IP Address to DHCP in W in 2K

You can use the netsh command in Windows 2000 to script the process of changing a computer

a static Internet Protocol (IP) address to Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) or vice

versa. The netsh command accomplishes this task without the need to restart the computer. This

feature is particularly useful for laptops that move from one environment to another, when it is

necessary to use statically assigned IP addresses at one location and DHCP assigned IP addresse

another.

 More Information:-

To switch the specified adapter from a static address to DHCP, type the following command:

netsh interface ip set address "Local Area Connection" dhcp

NOTE:-

Typing this command changes the interface named "Local Area Connection" to DHCP.

To display all of the adapters in the computer with their current IP addresses to determine the co

Adapter name, type the following command:

Netsh interface ip show config

To change to a static address, type the following command:

netsh interface ip set address "Local Area Connection" static ip address subnetmask gateway me

 Note:-

Replace ipaddress with the static IP address, subnet mask with the subnet mask, gateway with th

default gateway and, if necessary, metric with the appropriate metric.

The following example changes the interface "Local Area Connection" to a static address of

192.168.0.10 with a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0, and the interface has a default gateway of

192.168.0.1 with a metric of 1: netsh interface ip set address "Local Area Connection" static

192.168.0.10 255.255.255.0 192.168.0.1.1

How to crack any type of softwar e pro tection

Identifying the protection

Run the program, game, etc., (Software X) that you want to crack without the CD in the CD

reader. SoftwareX will not run of course, however, when the error window pops up it will

give you all of the vital information that you need to crack the program, so be sure to write

down what it says.

Cracking the protection

Now, run Win32Dasm. On the file menu open DISASSEMBLER > OPEN FILE TO

DISASSEMBLE. Select Software X’s executable file in the popup window that will appear

(e.g. SoftwareX.exe). W32Dasm may take several minutes to disassemble the file. When

W32Dasm finishes disassembling the file it will display unrecognizable text; this is what we

want. Click on the String Data References button. Scroll through the String Data Items until

you find Software X’s error message. When you locate it, double click the error message and

then close the window to return to the Win32Dasm text. You will notice that you have beenmoved somewhere within the Software X’s check routine; this is where the error message in

generated. Now comes the difficult part, so be careful. To crack Software X’s protection you

must know the @offset of every call and jump command. Write down every call and

jump@offset number that you see (You have to be sure, that the OPBAR change its used

color to green). You need the number behind the @offset without the “h.”Now open HIEW,

locate Software X’s executable, and press the F4 key. At this point a popup window will

appear with 3 options: Text, Hex, and Decode. Click on “Decode” to see a list of numbers.

Now press the F5 key and enter the number that was extracted using Win32Dasm. After you

have entered the number you will be taken to Software X’s check routine within HIEW. To

continue you must understand this paragraph. If the command that you are taken to is

E92BF9BF74, for example, it means that the command equals 5 bytes. Every 2 digits equal

one byte: E9-2B-F9-BF-74 => 10 digits => 5 bytes. If you understood this then you cans

continue. Press F3 (Edit), this will allow you to edit the 10 digits. Replace the 5 bytes with

the digits 90. In other words, E92BF9BF74 will become 9090909090 (90-90-90-90-90).

After you complete this step press the F10 key to exit.

Congratulations! You just cracked Software X!

Don’t panic if Software X will not run after you finished cracking it. It only means thatsomething was done incorrectly, or perhaps Software X’s protection technology has been

improved or created after this tutorial. Simply reinstall Software X and start over. If you’re

sure that you completed all steps correctly and the program still will not run then tough

nuts…..!

FAT32 OR NTFS: MAK ING THE CHOICE

Choosing the file system to use on a Windows XP system is seldom easy, and frequently it's not

a one time decision. Different factors can blur the decision process, and some tradeoffs are more

than likely. No matter what method you choose to adopt Windows XP, you will have to face the

FAT32 versus NTFS decision. Clean and upgrade installs both require you to address the situati

early on in the process. Later on, if you add a drive or repartition an existing drive the decision

process faces you yet again. Circumstances may dictate the choice for you, but in most cases the

options have to be Weighed and the tradeoffs of using each method analyzed. Let's look at the

available choices.

File System Choices

Most articles discussing file system choices look at FAT32 and NTFS as the two available choic

In Reality, there are three systems which could be selected. FAT, FAT32, and NTFS. Granted,

FAT32 and NTFS are the primary choices, but on occasion you'll still find the need for a FAT

volume. A FAT Volume has a maximum size of 2GB and supports MS-DOS as well as being us

for some dual boot Configurations, but backward compatibility is about the only reason I can thi

of that FAT should ever be used, other than for the occasional floppy diskette. That said; let's mon to FAT32 and NTFS.

 Which File System to Choose?

As much as everyone would like for there to be a stock answer to the selection question,

there isn’t. Different situations and needs will play a large role in the decision of which file

system to adopt. There isn’t any argument that NTFS offers better security and reliability.

Some also say that NTFS is more flexible, but that can get rather subjective depending on

the situation and work habits, whereas NTFS superiority in security and reliability is seldom

challenged. Listed below are some of the most common factors to consider when decidingbetween FAT32 and NTFS.

Security

FAT32 provides very little security. A user with access to a drive using FAT32 has access to

the files on that drive. NTFS allows the use of NTFS Permissions. It's much more difficult to

implement, but folder and file access can be controlled individually, down to an extreme

degree if necessary. The down side of using NTFS Permissions is the chance for error and

screwing up the system is greatly magnified. Windows XP Professional supports file

encryption.Compatibility

NTFS volumes are not recognized by Windows 95/98/Me. This is only a concern when the

system is set up for dual or multi-booting. FAT32 must be used for any drives that must be

accessed when the computer is booted from Windows 95/98 or Windows Me. An additional

note to the previous statement. Users on the network have access to shared folders no Matter

what disk format is being used or what version of Windows is installed. FAT and FAT32

volumes can be converted to NTFS volumes. NTFS cannot be converted to FAT32 without

reformatting.

Page 52: Windows Trics Tips

8/14/2019 Windows Trics Tips

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/windows-trics-tips 52/66

 Space Efficiency

NTFS supports disk quotas, allowing you to control the amount of disk usage on a per user

basis. NTFS supports file compression. FAT32 does not How a volume manages data is

outside the scope of this article, but once you pass the 8GB partition size, NTFS handles

space management much more efficiently than FAT32. Cluster sizes play an important part

in how much disk space is a wasted storing file. NTFS provides smaller cluster sizes and less

disk space waste than FAT32.In Windows XP, the maximum partition size that can be

created using FAT32 is 32GB. This increases to 16TB (terabytes) using NTFS. There is a

workaround for the 32GB limitation under FAT32, but it is a nuisance especially considering

the size of drives currently being manufactured.

Reliability

FAT32 drives are much more susceptible to disk errors.NTFS volumes have the ability to

recover from errors more readily than similar FAT32 volumes. Log files are created under

NTFS which can be used for automatic file system repairs. NTFS supports dynamic cluster

remapping for bad sectors and prevent them from being used in the future.

The final choice

As the prior versions of Windows continue to age and are replaced in the home and

workplace there will be no need for the older file systems. Hard drives aren't going to get

smaller, networks are likely to get larger and more complex, and security is evolving almost

daily as more and more users become connected. For all the innovations that Windows 95

brought to the desktop, it's now a virtual dinosaur. Windows 98 is fast on the way out and

that leaves NT and Windows 2000, both well suited to NTFS. To wrap up, there may be

compelling reasons why your current situation requires a file system other than NTFS or acombination of different systems for compatibility, but if at all possible go With NTFS. Even if

you don't utilize its full scope of features, the stability and reliability it offers make it the hands

down choice.

Change Text on XP Start Button

Step 1 – Modify Explorer.exe File

In order to make the changes, the file explorer.exe located at C:\Windows needs to be edited.

Since explorer.exe is a binary file it requires a special editor. For this purpose in this article I h

used Resource Hacker. Resource Hacker TM is a freeware utility to view, modify, rename, add

delete and extract resources in 32bit Windows executables and resource files (*.res). Itincorporates an internal resource script compiler and decompiler and works on Win95, Win98,

Win ME, WinNT, Win2000 and WinXP operating systems.

The first step is to make a backup copy of the file explorer.exe located at C:\Windows\explore

Place it in a folder somewhere on your hard drive where it will be safe. Start Resource Hacker

Use NETSH Com m and to Change from Static IP Address to DHCP 2K

You can use the netsh command in Windows 2000 to script the process of changing a compute

static Internet Protocol (IP) address to Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) or vice v

The netsh command accomplishes this task without the need to restart the computer. This feature is particularly useful for laptops that move from one environment to another, when

necessary to use statically assigned IP addresses at one location and DHCP assigned IP addres

another.

To switch the specified adapter from a static address to DHCP, type the following command:

netsh interface ip set address "Local Area Connection" dhcp

NOTE: Typing this command changes the interface named "Local Area Connection" to DHCP

To display all of the adapters in the computer with their current IP addresses to determine the

correct adapter name, type the following command:

Netsh interface ip show config

To change to a static address, type the following command:

netsh interface ip set address "Local Area Connection" static ip address subnet mask gateway m

NOTE: Replace ipaddress with the static IP address, subnetmask with the subnet mask,

Gateway with the default gateway and, if necessary, metric with the appropriate metric.

The following example changes the interface "Local Area Connection" to a static address of

192.168.0.10 with a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0, and a default gateway of 192.168.0.1

with a metric of 1:
