PAST PRESIDENTS
In 2015, the New City Rotary Club lost one of its cherished members and good friend when Allan
Goshin passed away. Allan was a rotarian for more than thirty five years. In many ways he epitomized what a
rotarian should be. He was charitable, generous, reliable and humorous. Whether the service project was an
international one or a local charity, whenever Allan was involved the Rotary Club could expect a one hundred
percent commitment from him.
Allan was involved in too many projects to list them all in this tribute but there are a few that
should be mentioned because they were special to Allan and special to the Rotary club. For many years
Allan chaired our scholarship committee. It was under his leadership that the committee became one of
the most desired to serve on, a place where the rotarians got to meet the highest caliber high school
students. Because of this committee and Allan's leadership countless students have been recognized for
their achievements and given financial help with their higher education.
International projects held a special place for Allan. An adage that meant a lot to Allan was, "if you
give a person a fish he can eat for a day but if you teach a person to fish he can feed himself forever." In line
with this philosophy he was especially supportive of projects that encourage entrepreneurship by making small
loans to individuals to start their own businesses. As a result of his advocacy, the New City Club has
supported and continues to support projects designed to help individuals become self-sufficient.
Those who knew Allan can attest to his fondness for wines. The Rotary Club's Wine and Food
Festival's success was a result of the hard work of many rotarians but no rotarian was more committed to
making this event happen than Allan. His keen interest in and knowledge about wines combined with his
commitment to the charity of helping to feed the needy in our county made him a key leader in bringing the
dream of a festival to a reality.
There is so much more to be told about Allan's rotary life, but not enough time or space to do so. To
just list his roles in our club would not begin to tell the story of who Allan Goshin was and what he meant to
our rotary club. He will long be remembered for his wit, humor, voluntarism, friendship, and commitment to
rotary. It is not trite to say he will be sorely missed but never forgotten by all those members of the New City
Rotary Club who had the privilege to know Allan. On behalf of all those rotarians, the New City Rotary Club
salutes him for his service and dedication to our Club, our community and the world community. Let's all lift a
glass of wine and make a toast to honor him for all that he's done- both to help make us a better Rotary
Club, and to help make this world a better place.
What is Rotary?
Rotary is a global network of community volunteers. Rotary club members are business, professional, and community leaders in your locality who meet regularly to plan and implement community serviceactivities.
For those interested, members can also choose to become involved in international humanitarian serviceefforts. More than 1.2 million men and women in over 200 countries belong to over 33,000 Rotaryclubs.
Rotary builds international understanding through scholarships, exchange programs, and humanitariangrants. Throughout the world, Rotary clubs participate in a broad range of educational, intercultural, and humanitarian activities designed to improve the lives of others.
Benefits of Membership
Belonging to a Rotary club provides members with an opportunity to make a contribution to their owncommunities and to communities around the world.
Members may join Rotary for many reasons including community involvement, personal development, professional networking, and camaraderie with fellow members.
But perhaps the most important benefit is the satisfaction gained from making a real difference in theworld.
