Spain is different… and this can certainly be applied to its wines.

It’s diverse soil type and the wide range of climates along with the vast amount of grape

varieties makes Iberian Peninsula an indulging Paradise for Wine Lovers as there are over

600 different known indigenous and International varietals. On each vintage over 60 of

these grapes are used throughout Spain to make these splendid and interesting wines.

Did you know that Spain has the largest planted areas of vineyards in the world?

From North to South white wine styles varies enormously.

Let's take Celtic Spain in the Northwest, Galicia, with elegant and fruity grapes such as

Albariño from Rias Baixas, or Treixadura from Ribeiro, and how about Godello from

Valdeorras… These are just some examples of extraordinary quality.

And if we go to Rueda, we find the unique and distinctive Verdejo, and Xare-lo in

Catalunya, Viura and Malvasia in Rioja, Macabeo in Valdepenas and La Mancha, Palomino

in Jerez and San Lucar and the sweet Moscatel de la Marina in Alicante and luscious Px

from Malaga, just to name a few.

SHERRYS

Sherry is probably the wine with appellation of origin that has oldest historical references.

They were the Phoenicians who introduced vineyards to the zone (Jerez de la Frontera) nearly

3000 years ago. Then the Greeks came… and the Romans… and the Moors…

Sherries range from dry to sweet in style and they are classified in order from driest to

sweetest: Manzanilla, Fino, Amontillado, Oloroso, Palo cortado, Cream, Pedro Xim enez and

Moscatel.

CAVAS

CAVA are sparkling wines made by the method Champenoise in Spain, mainly in the wine

region of Penedes. Those are ranked amongst the world's finest sparkling wines. A good

example is Brut ZERO, a CAVA produced by Castellblanch, one of the most modern Houses

in the world. CAVA is naturally fermented and aged in the bottle for a minimum of 18

months.

If the whites and roses are excellent, then we are spoiled with reds from Tempranillo,

Garnacha, Monastrell to Mencia, Carinena, Graciano and Mazuelo to name just a few.

The climate and soil is extremely important to be able to come up with the smooth and sweet

fruity wine from Rioja, the richness and full bodied from Ribera del duero, the powerful

Jumilla, the warmth of La Mancha, the richness of Toro and the strong and powerful Priorat,

as well as some made from international grapes in regions like Alicante where Enrique

Mendoza are the pioneers in making extraordinary wines in extreme conditions.

PORTO WINES

Port wine has been made for many centuries in the harsh environment of the Douro Valley in

Portugal. In 1756, Marques de Pombal established the demarcation of the Douro wine

growing area. At the same time, he also laid down the initial regulation on how Port wine

should be produced to ensure the right quality.

These regulations have developed somewhat since then, reaching today's production method

sometime during the second half of the 19th Century.

All Port wine is made from grapes growing in the Douro Valley, harvested in September and

fortified with two-three days after the harvest. Then it is transported down the Douro River

to Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia, where it is stored until ready for blending and shipment.
