 Morris’ sculptures are towers shaped from plaster; sand, and painted with raw pigment to resemble a three-dimensional artist’s palate. Inspired by her strength from personal struggles, Morris chooses to focus on the hopefulness and vibrancy of life. The seemingly weightless forms are a metaphor for pure joy and the ability to conquer the impossible. Each layer of her towers teeters over the other, threatening to fall, yet gently supporting each other’s balance.  

Since completing her degree from École des Beaux-Arts Paris, Morris has exhibited at The Royal Academy, London; Baku MoMA, Azerbaijan and The New Art Gallery, Walsall and Tate Gallery, St Ives.

For the first time, Morris has taken her sculptural exploration into the m e d i u m o f b r o n z e . H e r hopefulness and ability to question what we consider to be constant rules, is pushed further by the use of metal. Her sculptures create movement upwards, each part floating upon the next, while so l id ly connec ted by the i r substance.

In her Face painting series, Morris again demonstrates her mastery of fluidity and ability to encapsulate the sense of effortlessness in abstract form.  Morris builds her canvases by layering planes of figures, creating a greater whole, rather than a group of individuals. Each face is drawn and overdrawn, emerging from the gestural and fluid composition, creating a new layer and sense of connectedness with the viewer.

For Morris, drawing has always been an instinctual act, something natural and also comforting. It is the place she returns to as an artist. The Stitch Drawings are a way for Morris to connect even further with her expressions. By using thread to draw, her creative process is slowed and becomes more intimate. They become something more physically tangible and sculptural. As with all of her artworks, Morris continues to use symbolic imagery to explore themes of hope and renewed life.

Morris was first drawn to the clothes peg due to its humble function and domestic connotations. “Its only job is to cling on,” she says. The peg series began in 2005, and marries material and form with the proportions of the clothes peg perfectly suited to depict the human figure. Equally, like much of Morris’ work they emanate an obsessive beauty- one feels the time spent letting the hand and pen freewheel through tens, hundreds, thousands of figures. This is the first and most basic of Morris’ repeated motifs- the female nude. Here she is controlled and ordered. The women stand together emanating a collective strength. The ranks of colored nudes stare out at you, each one with a story to tell and each one buoyed by their surrounding companions.
