Recreation for All Seasons...

The Athens-Clarke County Leisure Services Department is truly a department for all seasons - winter, spring, summer, and fall.

Parks are a year-round destination. The cooler months of the season are a great time to visit the parks, playgrounds, and trails. Just because the temperature has dropped, that is no reason not to be outside enjoying almost 2,000 acres of park property and miles of trails.

The cooler season also ushers in holiday activities, includ-ing the community’s largest holiday event, The Downtown Parade of Lights. This year’s theme is “The Sounds of Christ-mas.” Other holiday activities include holiday mini camps, “Breakfast with the Grinch,” “Deck the Hollow,” “Santa’s Workshop,” and a selection of holiday performances at the Morton Theatre.

Once the hustle and bustle of the holidays end, visit Lyndon House Arts Center and take in the current exhibition or an art class or visit the interactive exhibits at Sandy Creek Nature Center. Keep the family active by enroll-ing in a dance, tennis, acting or gymnastics class. Or pack up the kids and head off to the Department’s newest play-ground at East Athens Community Park.

Then before we know it spring will be in the air and so will the buzz of the many youth and adult sport leagues and, can you believe it, summer camp registration!
