1927’S GOLEM p4-5
We think THE OLD MARKET (or TOM for short) is the best place in Brighton & Hove to see a show. And we aim to encourage the presentation and production of performance arts, by hand-picking shows – just look out for TOM’S TAGS for our picks.
We oft en add new shows – keep an eye on THEOLDMARKET.COM and sign up to our newsletter to stay one-step ahead of the crowds.
TOM is owned and managed by two of the city’s most successful artists, the creators of international smash-hit show STOMP.

The follow up to the critically acclaimed THE ANIMALS AND CHILDREN TOOK TO THE STREETS, 1927 bring their new award-winning show GOLEM to The Old Market, following sell-out seasons in London and Paris.
Like a giant graphic novel burst into life, 1927 invites audiences to take a step through the looking glass into a dark and fantastical tale of an extraordinary ordinary man. Blending hand-made animation, claymation, live music and performance, GOLEM is a dystopian fable for the twenty first century, which cleverly and satirically explores one of the great questions of the modern world – who or what is in control of our technologies?
Award-winning 1927 are supported by The Old Market.

What would you do if you hatched out of an egg only to discover you looked nothing like your brothers and sisters, or even your mother? Imagine if everyone laughed at you because you were different.
THE UGLY DUCKLING is the story of a little bird who sets off on an adventure to find out who he is; on his journey he meets a plastic-spoon fish and a colander turtle, a rattling crab and a strange snake, a sneezing dog and a singing rabbit, an old lady who plays the harmonica, a cat chasing mice and finally... a magnificent swan! Is the little bird really just a different duckling, or is he something else?
Expect the trademark hand shadow puppetry of Drew Colby (Finger and Thumb Theatre), live cello music played by Penny Callow (Flaming Cello), beautiful light-scapes, whimsical humour and clever use of everyday objects, in this brand new Christmas show.
