The old rockery at the southern end was cleared with the help of a digger. The new trees and shrubs should all be planted by the end of January and 10 bird boxes installed in time for the nesting season. Over 2000 bulbs have been planted at the top end so there should be a riot of tree blossom and flowering bulbs this spring. Did you know? The blocks of flats on the estate are named after counties, but did you know that they are located in alphabetical order? The first line of flats from the top of Monks Drive, running along Links Road and ending on Queen’s Drive next to the Japanese school starts with Ayr Court and ends with Kent Court (A to K). The second line of flats running from east to west along the south side of Queens Drive starts with Norfolk House and ends with Thanet Court (N to T). The last two blocks, Warwick House and York House (W to Y) are located on the corner of Queens Drive and Links Road. Next time someone asks you directions you should be able to point them in the right direction. Hugh Richards, HHGERA Chairman

Festive Season Crime PreventionNothing can ruin your Christmas spirit faster than being a victim of crime. Please follow the advice provided by the Police to keep yourself and your neighbours safe throughout the winter holidays.Protecting Your HomeBe extra cautious about locking doors and windows when you leave your home, even for a few minutes. Don’t openly display your Christmas tree and gifts in the front window. It’s so tempting for a criminal to smash your window and grab the wrapped packages.

Don’t advertise…Leaving your outdoor lights 24 hours a day or leaving flyers hanging out of the letterbox for a few days is simply saying “we are out” If you are out for an evening, turn a light or the TV on so it looks like you are in!Don’t hide your spare keys under rocks, in flowerpots, or above door ledges. Burglars know how to find them. Give them instead to a trusted neighbour.Burglars prefer to enter through unlocked doors or windows. A holiday problem can occur when exterior Christmas light extension cords are run inside through a window and prevent it from being secured. Don’t put your name on your mailbox or bell push. A burglar can call directory enquiries to get your telephone number and call your home while in front of your house to see if you are away. Don’t leave descriptive telephone answering machine messages like, “You’ve reached the Wilson’s…we’re away for the Christmas…please leave a message.”Don’t pile up empty boxes on your porch, front garden or the pavement. Burglars love knowing that you have expensive gifts just inside for them to steal. Break the boxes down or cut them to conceal the items better. Best practice would be to take them to the Recycling Centre.Shopping Prevention TipsThis is the time of year when many of us will be busy shopping and running errands. Don’t forget that criminals are also out looking for easy targets.Be extra cautious about locking doors and windows when you leave your home, even for a few minutes. Have your keys readily available in your hand before you go to your car.Be extra careful with purses and wallets. Carry a messenger bag around the body. Keep your wallet in an inside jacket pocket, not a back trouser pocket. Avoid carrying all credit cards at once or keeping them, all, in one wallet purse. Keep your phones out of sight rather than reading them while walking. Stay alert to your surroundings. Don't give money to anyone who comes to your door or stops you in the street.Let’s Keep an eye!Urgent Reporting call 999 Non-Urgent call 101Report via the Met Website or Twitter via:@MetCChttps://www.met.police.uk/ro/report/ocr/af/how-to-report-a-crime/
