about the WiNter SchoolMusic, the most entertaining and relaxing art form understood by humankind in

various phenomenons of nature and latter invented and improvised in many ways,

has been found in each and every culture of the world for ages. Variation in forms

may be subject to time and place. the origin of music is unknown as it occurred

prior to recorded history. Hindu mythological literature mentions it to be originated

from the sound of the Damaroo of Shiva or Veena of Saraswati. It is also suggested

that the origin of music likely stems from naturally occurring sound and rhythm.

Indian music is considered as one of the oldest musical traditions in the world.

Sculptures of dancing lady, seven holed flute and various types of drums and string

instruments found in excavation at Mohanjo Daro and Harappa attest to the antiquity

of the musical tradition in the country even in Indus Valley civilization. Rigveda has

elements of present Indian music with a musical notation to denote the metre and

mode of chanting (as mentioned by Richard o. Nidel in ‘World Music’).

Musicologists may have a specific definition of music buy for a layman music is a

good sound; a sound with rhythm or the sound in a controlled manner and produced

either by the vocal glands or using an instrument. As Wikipedia also suggests that

music is found in every known culture, including the most isolated tribal population.
