Every child should have the opportunity to develop the physical, emotional and social skills associated with playing sports. Each of these components builds upon one another to give children the foundation and the desire to be active for life.

Our youth sports programs include basketball, volleyball, tennis, running,

gymnastics and swimming. Children learn skills while participating for other reasons such as fun, socializing, and learning to love sports. Recreational sport is crucial to developing a lifelong desire in children to simply move their bodies on a regular basis. Imagine the benefits to the community when children are given the chance to play sports in a positive encouraging environment that fosters the desire to live active and healthy adult lives.

Sport is fun and essential for positive personal development. It is our role to afford these opportunities to children: the camaraderie of team, the physical activity needed in adolescence, and the feeling of confidence that comes from knowing they have the ability to play sports. If you haven’t already, please register your child in our quality programs or share our information with friends and family.

We have recreational sport for adults too. Pickle Ball continues to grow in popularity with over 60 adults joining together for a fall tournament at the Community Center. Stop by the gym on Tuesday and Thursday mornings for open play and find a dozen or more active adults playing Pickle Ball for fun! Competitive and recreational volleyball league play is on Wednesday night, adult swim training is offered in our indoor pool twice a week, and the men’s basketball league continues on Sunday evenings in the Community Center gym.

Construction is well underway for the pool project. We are proud to have five local contractors on the job. As a municipality, we comply with the public procurement process which requires us by law to hire the lowest reasonable and responsive bidder. Williams Architects have designed an aquatic facility to meet the needs of our community; Russell Construction is serving in the capacity of Construction Manager as Advisor. Working with this team of professionals, the Geneseo Park District board and staff are taking extreme care to deliver a quality aquatic facility that adheres to our original budget and opens for the 2016 summer season. We are involved in each step of the construction process to ensure that all of our planning pays off for the residents of Geneseo. It is a very exciting project for our agency and for our community.

GENESEO yOUTH bASKETbALL PROMOTES FUN & love oF the game...

“I believe that youth basketball is a key step in the process for player development and for the future of the high school basketball program. Here in Geneseo we now have an off ensive and defensive system that we are implementi ng starti ng at the GYB level. Players who go through our youth program will have an advantage because they will already have a strong understanding of our systems and a bett er understanding of how to play the game correctly.

I work with the coaches and GYB players to help develop the youth players within our systems, and to promote the most important aspect of all - FUN AND A LOVE OF THE GAME! I strongly encourage youth in our community to take advantage of the programs.”
