Live Christmas Trees “Live” balled & burlapped evergreens are a great way to turn your Christmas tree into a lasting investment. Evergreens that may be used for this purpose include Norway Spruce, Blue Spruce & White Pine. Trees used indoors require special treatment. To increase your chances of “recycling” your trees, follow these instructions.

Caring for your tree:• Place the tree in a shallow pan or tub large enough

to accommodate the ball. Gradually acclimate the tree to warmer conditions by placing it in a garage or very cool area for 2-3 days. This is particularly important if the root ball is frozen, so it may thaw gradually.

• Move the tree inside your home, away from vents, stoves, fireplace, or appliances. Do not use large, hot lights on live trees. It’s best to keep your tree in a cool room or to lower the temperature of the room when possible. Place the tree in a spot where it can be watered easily & will receive sunlight.

• The root ball must be kept adequately moist at all times, but never wet. Pour a small amount of water in the pan & allow the ball to absorb it. Covering the root ball & the top of the container with a sheet of plastic will prevent rapid drying & reduce the need for watering.

• Remove your tree from your home after 3-10 days. The shorter the time it’s indoors, the better. If temperatures are freezing or below, the tree should be gradually acclimated to outdoor con-ditions by moving it again to the garage or in a more protected area for 5-10 days. Allow the ball to drain well before handling.

Planting Your Tree:Prepare the planting spot well in advance, before the ground freezes. The hole should be the same depth & twice as wide as the root ball. For easier planting, cover the hole with burlap or plywood to keep the ground in working condition. Plant your tree as soon as possible. If cold weather prevents the actual planting, set the tree in the pre-dug hole with some moist mulch around the ball to keep it from freeze-drying. Follow ”Wilson’s Planting Guidelines for Trees & Shrubs“.

Fresh Cut Christmas TreesBecause our trees are freshly cut & properly cared for by us, your’e guaranteed a beautiful tree throughout the holiday season. Fraser firs are excellent Christmas trees because of their attractive silver needles, balsam scent, strong branches that decorate easily & their excellent needle retention.

Outside Care:We’ll give your tree a fresh cut to ensure that it will take up water. If you bring your tree home before you are ready to set it up, store it in a cold, sheltered spot out of direct sunlight. Stand the tree in a bucket of water.

Inside Care:• Place your tree away from air vents, heaters,

fireplaces & direct sun. • Add a tree preservative to the water to extend the

life of your cut tree. Check the water level twice daily (more often the first few days). Be sure your tree stays in water throughout the season ( a good stand will help). Using “water-storing crystals” will also help reduce frequency of watering.

fresh & fragrant holiday greens for the season

Greens, Wreaths & Roping

Decorating with fresh greens brings old traditions and good memories to Christmas gatherings & they enhance your home with evergreen scents, such as pine, cedar & spruce.

Outside Care:Keep cool and moist. Soak with water every 2-3 days, particularly during warmer or windy weather. Avoid splashing water on bows that are not weatherproof.

Inside Care:Hang fresh greens as close to the day of the festivities as possible. Keep greens in water until you are ready to decorate. They will dry out quickly in the dry heat of a house. Mist with a water bottle twice a day. For cut greens in arrangements, check the water level daily. Tip: Spray fresh-cut greens with an anti-desiccant, such as Wilt-Pruf®, to seal in moisture & add luster.
