The Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics www.ictp.it United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization IAEA International Atomic Energy Agen Wireless Networking for Science in Africa 11 - 22 March 2013 Miramare, Trieste, Italy CO-SPONSORS The Telecommunications/ICT for Development Laboratory (T/ICT4D) of the Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP, Trieste, Italy), in collaboration with the International Telecommunications Union - Telecommunication Development Sector (ITU/BDT), the Network Startup Resource Center (NSRC) and the National Institute of Telecommunications (NIT, Poland), is organizing a Workshop on Wireless Networking for Science in Africa to be held in Trieste from 11 to 22 March 2013. In the last couple of years we have witnessed an incredible evolution of wireless technologies that can provide a viable solution to research challenges in Africa. With the final goal of connecting African Research Centres to the Internet, the Workshop intends to describe the state of the art in Wireless Technologies in informative and hand-on ways. Topics of the Workshop will include: Radio Physics, Fundamentals of wireless networking, Design and Deployment of point-to-point links, Wireless Sensor Networks for data collection in the field. PARTICIPATION Young scientists, engineers and scholars from African countries which are members of the United Nations, UNESCO or IAEA may attend. The Workshop will be conducted in English. Participants should have an adequate knowledge of that language, of basic physics, and a working knowledge of computer programming and networking. Although the main purpose of the Centre is to help research workers from developing countries, through a programme of training activities within a framework of international cooperation, a limited number of graduate students and post-doctoral scientists from developed countries are also welcome to attend. As a rule, travel and subsistence expenses of the participants should be borne by their home institution. Every effort should be made by candidates to secure support for their fare (or at least half-fare). However, limited funds are available for some participants to be selected by the Organizers, who are nationals of, and working in, a developing country, and who are not more than 45 years old. Such support is available only for those who attend the entire activity. There is no registration fee. How to apply for participation: until 11 November 2012, the online application form can be accessed at the activity website: http://agenda.ictp.it/smr.php72447. Once in the website, comprehensive instructions will guide you step-by-step, on how to fill out and submit the application form.
