Pharmacy & Your HealthToenail Fungus TreatmentsOnychomycosis is a medical term that refers to toenail fungus. Although the big toe is typically affected first, other toes also may be infected. The nail has discoloration that eventually spreads across the nail. Living in a humid climate, a suppressed immune system, and diabetes can all lead to a fungal toenail infection. Although the condition does not generally pose a risk beyond cosmetic dissatisfaction and discomfort, persons with diabetes and toenail fungus may also be at risk for bacterial cellulitis, which is a more serious infection.
Some treatments applied topically generally are ineffective for toenail fungus. Therefore, medications that are taken by mouth may be prescribed. Terbinafine (Lamisil) is an antifungal medication that is taken orally. Fluconazole (Diflucan) is also an antifungal medication that may be prescribed for toenail fungus. These medications may need to be taken for several months for treatment of the infection. Ciclopirox (Penlac) is an antifungal nail lacquer that is applied topically for mild or moderate nail fungus. It is commonly difficult to cure toenail fungus due to those affected not taking medication for the full duration of time recommended and resistance of the fungus to medication. A dermatologist may need to be consulted if treatment difficulties occur.

The Tackle BoxThis year’s new fishing regulations are now out for everyone
to access and there have been some changes. One of the things that stood out the most for me this year is the closure of some of the rivers that you may have fished over the years.
I believe they are closing the rivers that they are to better improve the ecology of the area and the preservation of some species, which I support.
In that belief, I would hate for any of my fellow fishermen be excited to go fishing and be disappointed when you get there due to a closure, so take a few minutes and read through the regulations to double check that your favorite stream or creek has not been added to the new closure list.
The changes that take place annually may or may not affect you personally but remember, the ODFW is trying to manage the entire state and in some cases, they are acting on a Federal level to maintain and preserve specific aspects of our great sport.
I may not agree with all things they implement, but some of the improvements are really great! Remember the two-rod licensing? That one was a really great change, I thought!
So before you have your heart on that certain fishing hole, double check to make sure that the waterway is still open for your fishing trip to avoid any last minute changes that you may not be prepared to make.
