Studying in WaterfordWaterford, the oldest city in
Ireland, is today a modernand vibrant port city locatedin the beautiful South-East ofIreland.
Founded in 914 AD by Viking settlers, Waterord is
an ancient walled city with many interesting historicsites and attractive buildings. Reginalds Tower is the
oldest urban civic building in Ireland, and the oldest
monument to retain its Viking name. To this day, it
remains Waterords most recognisable landmark.
Waterord is the designated gateway to the South-East
region, with excellent shopping, a lively social scene
and acilities or sport and recreation. It is the th
city o the Irish Republic, having a population o about
60,000 people. It is connected to the capital, Dublin,
by motorway and is easily accessible by train or
coach. There are also daily fights to London and other
UK cities rom Waterord regional airport.
The citys most amous export is the unique Waterord
Crystal. You can see this world-renowned productbeing crated at the magnicent House o Waterord in
the heart o the citys Viking quarter.
Waterord city is located 10 kilometres rom the
coast which means there are superb opportunities
or swimming and surng. The cost o living
(accommodation, ood, travel) in Waterord is much
lower than that o Dublin and other Irish cities.

Why WIT?WIT is a state-sector,
university-level collegewhich is funded directly bythe Irish government. Thismeans that its facilities andinfrastructure are ofexcellent quality.

Types of Programmes AvailableThere is a wide range of
programmes available atWaterford Institute ofTechnology.
The programmes on oer at WIT range rom the
pre-entry International Foundation Programmecourse to undergraduate programmes at Higher
Certicate and Bachelors level and rom postgraduate
progammes to Masters and Doctoral levels. Some
programmes are designed to run rom entry to
completion as a single programme. Other programmes

International Foundation ProgrammeDesigned to help
international studentsimprove and practiceEnglish language skills inan academic setting.
The WIT International Foundation Programme is
designed to help international students improve
and practise English language skills in an academic
setting. It also helps students adapt to the new
learning and teaching styles that they will encounter
in Ireland. The course includes advanced academic
English and also introductory courses in some o the
subjects rom the students chosen academic area.
Modules include English or academic purposes,
communications, study and IT skills, mathematics,
critical thinking, and European Union society
and culture.
All students on the programme obtain two valuable
qualications which are internationally recognised.
These are the IELTS Certicate and the ECDL
Certicate (European Computer Driving Licence).

How to applyUndergraduate Courses(Direct Entry)
You should be at least 17 years o age in
January o the year o entry. You must have
a secondary/high school diploma, with good
grades in English and Mathematics and at
least 4 other subjects, with average marks
o over 60%. Some courses have special
entry requirements, e.g. high mathematics
grades, which you should check under the
course details on the Institutes website(www.wit.ie). I English is not your rst
language you should present evidence
o competence in the language (see later
section or details).
Undergraduate Courses(Advanced Entry)I you wish to seek exemptions or
completed courses o study overseas, you
should satisy the above requirements and
you must provide details o the college/
university you attended and a certied
copy o all academic transcripts which
detail the subjects you studied and grade
awarded. I you have only completed part
o a course o study in another university
WIT will make contact with that college t
complete a transer agreement.
Postgraduate CoursesTo enter a taught Masters programme,
you should have a good honours degree
in a related subject. Work experience is
essential or some programmes. I Englisis not your rst language you should
present evidence o competence.
International FoundationProgramme
