The rest of this document is the PARCC layout.

The local school systems may refer to this

layout for CED and PARCC definitions.

The local school systems will use MSDE PARCC MSDE Spring Pretest File Layout for LEA.

The MSDE Layout will eliminate “critical

warnings” that will require future action or updates.

ERRORS THAT OCCURRED DURING FALL BLOCK SRI UPLOAD

1 Incorrect format was used - must be CSV.2 Header row was missing.

3 Incorrect number of columns (PARCC said "tokens"). Spring CSV must have 51 columns.

4 Name elements; some LEA used punctuation; did not use standard apostrophe

5 Last Name included generational suffix and had a comma between name and suffix.

6 Do not use a comma in any column in the CSV format; will cause another column.

7 State Optional Data areas were not a string; but separate columns. PARCC does not accept separate columns within that area.

ERRORS THAT OCCURRED DURING FALL BLOCK SRI UPLOAD(continued)

8 Critical warnings occurred if PARCC has not required but under PARCC Definitions and Notes, it states: This field is not required during import of student data, but if left blank, this field will create a Critical Warning in PearsonAccessNext.

These Critical Warnings must be corrected prior to reporting and shortly after testing. No posttest process has been announced or determined by Pearson as of this date.

Once the Fall Block upload was completed, no critical warnings were indicated for Maryland local school systems.

Students entered via data entry will have critical warnings due to the fact that the sensitive data fields are not required to test a student.

9 Title III Limited English Proficient Participation Status left blank - default to N.

NOTES

1 URL for File Upload: https://.pearsonaccessnext.com; on drop-down menu select "Maryland"

URL for Training Center: pearsonaccessnext.com; on drop-down menu select "Training“

2 Naming convention: Begin with LEA number; administration indication (Spring2015/PBA/EOY; then any other identifying information you wish)

For example: LEA01_SpringPBA_File1_20140903.csv

3 Need to import a file for PBA and also for EOY (update any data elements that might have changed between the imports).

NOTES(continued)

4 If more than one content, need 2 rows per student with different test codes.

5 The format is CSV. If you use Microsoft Excel, it is recommended that you save a source file as an Excel spreadsheet to keep formatting (including any leading zeros). Prior to each import attempt, save the file as an Excel spreadsheet (this will be your original source file). Then save it again as a .csv file. If you receive an error message, make the updates in the source Excel spreadsheet and save the file, then save it again as a .csv file.

6 Pearson has used current CEDS definitions.

7 MSDE has tried to help with making the import file as complete as possible for PARCC needs and MDSE reporting needs.

NOTES(continued)

8 MSDE required elements are for our reporting purposes or for documentation purposes. If this data element is not supplied, the file will not be rejected.

9 Any fields populated in both the required and state optional fields will be populate (“pass-through”) in any data file produced by vendors and/or within their applications or products.

10 PARCC is not requiring certain student identifying information for testing purposes to enable same day registering at the school-level. However, in the future these data elements will be required for reporting purposes and have “critical warnings” indicated.

NOTES(continued)

11 Critical warnings must be updated within PearsonAccessNext. PearsonAccessNext has not yet identified an updating system. However, Maryland local school systems populating these data elements in the file import will assure accuracy for both PARCC and MSDE reporting. See asterisked in PARCC required column.

12 MSDE will convert indicated data elements received from PARCC to the data standards presently in place for any and all data files received from PARCC, used for State reporting purposes and forwarded to local school systems.
