Holy Family Day School
Helping Hands for Advent
While the Holy Family Day School children are waiting for Christmas, they have been working together to help a less fortunate child receive a gift! Our children have fed their pets, folded laundry, cleaned up pine cones, gotten ready for school nicely, and played with younger brothers and sisters. They have brought the coins they earned to school to contribute to the gift their class is buying for the tag from the Giving Tree.
Holy Family Day School has classes for children from 2 years old through Kindergarten. Please see our website at www.holyfamilydayschool.org for more information.
If you would like to schedule a tour, please call the Day School Offi ce at 757-481-1180.

We meet the second Tuesday and the fourth Thursday of the month from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Holy Family. Weekly Wisdom
Psalms: The School of Prayer
At the heart of the Bible are the Psalms, prayers from God that help us learn to pray. The Holy Spirit inspired them. Israel sang them. Christ himself prayed them, as did our Blessed Mother. These sacred hymns become our heartfelt response to God’s loving and wondrous deeds for us. Their words captivate the imagination and draw us into a deeply personal encounter with God.
Join Jeff Cavins, Sarah Christmyer, and Dr. Tim Gray as they show you how to establish a deeply personal dialogue with God through the Psalms.
Join us for “Psalms: The School of Prayer” on Sundays between the Masses or Monday evenings beginning January 27 at 9:30 a.m. or January 28 at 7:00 p.m. Registration Forms can be found on the parish website or at the Parish Offi ce.
It is Not Too Late to Join Us!
Women’s Book Circle: Our next meeting will be Thursday, January 17, at 7:00 p.m. The book we will be discussing is “Hallelujah Anyway, Rediscovering Mercy” by Anne Lamott. All are welcome!

“CREATION CARE CORNER:”
SOME POLLUTION TIED TO WILD ANIMALS AND INSECTS
Generally, wild animals and insects don’t cause much pollution of the air or water. But, if we say pollution means harm to the type of environment humans desire for their existence, we can identify such harm by some animals and insects. For example, the wild Canadian Geese around Virginia Beach. Their natural enemies like foxes, river otter, and nutria have been greatly diminished in number. So, the number of geese in the area has increased greatly, to the extent that they now are polluting the rivers, golf courses, and home owners’ yards.
Mosquitoes, too, can be a problem. Rainy weather leads to an increase in the number of mosquitoes. Some of them transmit diseases. Their increased number is a type of pollution. Also, wild deer become a problem when their number is greatly increased. This can happen in a number of instances: • Fewer hunters than in previous generations in our country. • The concentration of deer in an area due to property development
taking away their habitat in that area. • The deer carry ticks that transmit diseases, and this transmission
of diseases in an area is a type of pollution of the human environment.
A number of years ago, gypsy moths multiplied in large numbers in the forests of Pennsylvania. The caterpillar stage of growth was the most troublesome. When they emerged, there were caterpillars crawling all over plants, cars, homes, streets, and sidewalks. It was not a pleasant environment. The State embarked on a statewide spraying of poison to try to diminish their number. The presence of the gypsy moths and the spraying were both pollution.
Once there were abundant oysters in the Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries. They helped keep the waters clean. However, over-harvesting of the oysters and some other factors greatly diminished the oyster population, and this resulted in more pollution of the Bay and its tributaries.
Sometimes, humans have a part in creating these undesirable situations, but not always. Nevertheless, when they occur we have to use our human resourcefulness to deal with them. So, please do your part in dealing with problems affecting our environment.
“Creation is a gift, it is a wonderful gift that God has given us, so that we care for it and we use it for the benefi t of all, always with great respect and gratitude.” ~ Pope Francis
