2. INSTALL AND SETUP TOOLS

This section provids step-by-step procedure to install QDART package required to perform RF tests using QRCT(Qualcomm radio control toolkit).

Prerequisites

1. Computer running on Window 7/10. 2. QDART tool package from Qualcomm.

To download QDART tool package, follow the procedure below:

• Register at Qualcomm CreatePoint: https://createpoint.qti.qualcomm.com/ and login:

• Select, Home→All Product Types→ Bluetooth/Wi-Fi and DEV. This will enable access to the tools:

• Select Tools and search for QDART. o Select, Subscribe and click QDART_CONN.WIN.1.0 Installer or

QDART.WIN.4.8 Installer to download. QDART_CONN.WIN.1.0 is a subset of QDART.WIN.4.8, hence the file size is smaller.

There will be a popup window saying “The download will initiate in your browser shortly. Please do not close this window until your download has initiated.”

• Install QDART_CONN.WIN.1.0 Installer. This version QDART has included windows USB driver. That is, windows USB driver will be installed automatically during the installation of QDART. So we don’t need to install the windows USB driver separately.

To install QDART Run the QDART executable installer in Administrator mode.

• The QDART installer, installs multiple tools. We will be using QRCT for manual RF tests.

Note: To use the QDART version (QDART-CONN 1.0-00072.1 and later) with Litepoint IQxel80/IQxel160, Anritsu 8870A, and NI PXI 5644/5645/5646, the SCPI interface is mandatory.

Contact the equipment company to get the SCPI package. Telit/Qualcomm does not distribute the equipment SCPI libraries to its customers.

3. WLAN TEST SETUP

This section provides step-by-step procedure to perform RF tests using QRCT.

Prerequisites

• WL865E4-P EVB.

• RF cable to connect the WL865E4-P antenna connector to RF test instrument.

• Ethernet cable to connect RF tester to Computer running QRCT tool.

• RF Shield Box.

4. WI-FI TEST PROCEDURE

The Qualcomm radio control toolkit (QRCT) is a Windows toolkit that provides GUI interface to FTM operation. The user can manually check for RF performance in nonsignaling test.

Flash the FTM binary to WL865E4-P

Go to the directory where FTM binary is available:

..\36.10.990.B004_Flash\ftm\bin

Place the WL865E4-P module in Program mode.

Run the flash.bat file in cmd prompt, and enter the COM port number as shown in the screenshot below.

Setup QRCT for Wi-Fi

Power ON the WL865E4-P test board by placing it in the Diagnostic mode, and connect it to the computer. The device manager detects the serial port, note down the com port number.

4.2.1. Initialize QRCT for Wi-Fi

1. Launch QRCT in Administrator mode. 2. Choose Target DIAGNOSTIC_LIGHT and com port shown in the device manager. 3. Select QCA4020 for the WL865E4-P in Select Chipset tab.

a. There are two ways to get the calibration data. Select File for RFCal Data Source, then click the button Select BDF to browse BDF file in the directory:

..\WL865E4_bddata\boardData_QCA4020_WL865.bin

b. Slect OTP for RFCal Data Source. In this case, the data stored on the WL865E4-P OTP will be used in the RF tests.

The board data is loaded in to the QRCT debug message and the WLAN RF test GUI for testing. The DUT is ready for RF test.

You can query the MAC address of the DUT using MAC Settings tab.

Click on the TX tab. Fill the various options as shown in the sample below for desired channel and data rate:

Example: WLAN Transmit settings; 2.4GHz band CH. 1, 1mbps

4.2.3. WLAN Tx Test Observations on Litepoint IQxel

Connect the RF port of the device to the RF connector of Lite Point IQxel.

Click “Tools”→ ”Port Routing” and configure the RF port in VSA mode (my RF port is RF1).

Set the Pathloss in “Pathloss Setup”.

Click “Technology”→ select ”WIFI SISO” mode.

Click the button “SET TX ON” in QRCT.

In the web LitePoint interface, configure the same channel and click the button “AGC” several times until the LitePoint receive the data packet, and you can see the waveform in the interface.

Click “STOP TX” to end the TX test.

4.2.6.1. 2.4 GHz, CH. 6, 11b, 11Mbps

Set the desired RX Setup in QRCT as shown below:

1. Enter the cable loss, frequency and power level in CMW500. 2. GPRF Generator ON. 3. Click “SET CONT. RX” in QRCT. 4. Send a statistically significant number of packets through VSG by loading the

appropriate ABS waveform on VSG:

WLAN_11b_SHORT_RATE11_LEN1024.wv

5. Click “GET RECEIVER REPORT” in the QRCT. 6. Continue descreasing the signal power level in CMW500 (or incrementing the

jammer power level) until PER at a given power level reaches the limits defined in the standards.

7. Inspect receiver report and calculate PER.

4.2.7.1. 2.4GHz, CH. 1, 11n, HT20, MCS0

1. Click the “Tools” →“Port Routing” to choose the Port RF in VSG mode. Set Pathloass. 2. Select LitePoint in “VSG1” mode.

3. Click “Load” button to choose appropriate waveform to be used. They are under the path -

4. Click “SET CONT. RX” in QRCT. 5. Select the count of data packet. Click the button “Play” in the LitePoint interface until

the data packet completion.

5.1.2. BLE Rx Test

1. Select “Bluetooth” category in QRCT→ Then “Bluetooth Low Energy”. 2. Configure the “Bluetooth Low Energy Receiver” settings as per the requirement. 3. Click “Receiver Test”. 4. Generate waveform on CMW500 by configuring the Tx signal strength (units in dBm). 5. Click “End Test (Get Number of Packets)”, note down the received packets and

calculate the PER as per the numper of packets you sent from CMW500.
