If you like helping out in the kitchen you can cook up a storm with The Community Chef who will be with us all week. On Monday, join in the silliness as Professor Des Turner brings back his good old-fashioned Punch and Judy show. Come along to the library on Thursday for some spooky (and not so spooky!) tales with Scandalmongers storyteller, Emily Parrish and don’t miss the Whitstabubble Beach Party on Tankerton Slopes - get ready for some giant bubbles and plenty of party games!

Finally, the finale! Before the sun sets on this year’s festival there will be a BBQ and music on the beach at our Mardi Gras to get the whole family in the mood for the fantastic firework display that closes our week.

Full family listings are on the opposite page, please check for prices, special instructions and age guidelines.

It’s nearly time for the summer holidays, which means it’s nearly time for the Whitstable Oyster Festival! We have so much to tell you about what we have planned for all the family in this year’s newsletter!

If you have been to the festival before, you’ll know that the celebrations start with the Landing of the Oysters on Long Beach. Watch the ‘catch’ being brought ashore in a special ceremony where they are blessed before being taken

through the town by the Lord Mayor of Canterbury and distributed to local restaurants at the head of the Oyster Parade.

Before the landing begins, we’re holding a children’s camp on Long Beach at 11am – come join us and bring your enthusiasm and your creativity! Have you heard what the parade theme is this year? ‘Fishing in the Deep Blue Sea’, which means you should look out for oystermen, Rainbow Fish and maybe even the odd sea monster! In

We hope you’ve remembered your swimming costume because, whatever the weather, you can enter our Pearl Dive contest at Whitstable Swimming Pool on Saturday afternoon. If you think your dog’s got talent, don’t miss the novelty Scallywags Dog Show in Marine Crescent on Sunday!

Our Crabbing Competition on Monday promises to be as silly as ever with lots of prizes to be won and if you’ve never flown a kite before, you’ll get your chance on Tuesday after the kite-making workshop so let’s hope it’s windy!

You’ll need your detective skills for the treasure hunt on Wednesday afternoon - find the clues fast to be first past the post!

Get Competitive!Get Creative! Our friends at The Horsebridge invite you to design and make your own plaster cast tile on Monday and you can create a chalky masterpiece outside the library with Stephen Hall’s Pavement Art. Then it’s back to The Horsebridge for a spot of jewellery-making on Tuesday followed by an hour of painting to create your finest collage on Wednesday.

We know where we’ll be on Friday afternoon - building a grotter on Reeves Beach! Collect your bucket of shells and get all the family to help make a wonderful oystershell castle.
