OXFORD’S LABOUR COUNCIL FAILS TO TACKLE HOUSING CRISIS

Oxford City Council has resisted calls to renew their Local Plan to allow more affordable homes to be built where they are needed in the City. This is despite reports earlier this year that the Oxford University Hospitals Trust is spending more than £100,000 a day on temporary staff - a problem largely caused by Oxford’s housing crisis.

■ The Labour dominated Oxford City Council are quick to highlight the housing crisis facing our City. Yet they have failed to get to grips with the challenges we face. In 2013/14 not a single affordable house was built in Oxford compared to over 500 in other Conservative-run areas of the county.

ROSIE HILLIARD:Standing up for Wolvercote

■ Rosie Hilliard lives in Wolvercote and is a member of the local WI and attends St Peter’s Church. A retired nurse, Rosie has worked at both the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre and at several Colleges.

As a local campaigner Rosie has a track record of delivery and is determined to hold the Labour City Council to account where Greens and Lib Dems have failed.

Rosie says, “You don’t have to look far outside the ring road to see Conservative councils providing better services, with lower taxes and tackling the problems that really matter to residents!”

LOCAL ISSUES, LOCAL ACTION, LOCAL CONSERVATIVES

OX49 5QE.A NEIGHBOURHOOD PLAN FOR WOLVERCOTE■ The Conservatives brought in the Localism Act which has allowed local communities to develop their own neighbourhood plans. Rosie recognises the challenges that the Wolvercote Neighbourhood Forum have been facing with the the Northern Gateway and other significant development sites but is impressed by their determination and progress to date. Sadly the Labour-run City Council is well behind other councils in providing assistance to its local communities, many elsewhere having formally adopted plans already.
