Sex and Gender

Sex GenderBiological differences between male and female which are universal and cannot change.

Social differences between men and women based on the sex of the person, usually culturally learned.

Facts about human biology Roles learnt through the culture and society we live in

SEX is physically determined GENDER is socially created

But both are often used interchangeably.

Necessity of Gender

Nature gave different abilities and powers to male andfemale and assigned different works to both so that systemof life can run efficiently. (Creator knows better)

Male are more physically strong, more situation resistantand more hard hearted.

Female are comparatively physically weak, moreemotionally affected, more caring and more absorbing.

When was problem created?

Everything was running fine. It was only when somemen started thinking that they are superior to womenbecause they are physically strong.

Men started using women only for their comfort,lust, and household jobs.

Started treating women only as a subject.

Gender based problems

Women are deprived of choice, identity, education,decision making, property rights, politicalrepresentation ........

Most important is safety.

Empowerment : What people think.

Nowadays people including women themselves,

specially youngsters, limited women empowerment

to

Freedom to roam freely at late night.

Freedom of hanging out with male partners.

Freedom of wearing lesser clothes, without being gazed upon.

Freedom of opting outdoor life rather than household jobs.

But these are choices which vary person to person due to

Society environment.

Religious considerations.

Family restrictions.

Individuals own choice.

Actual meaning of the term

But the term Women Empowerment has a very broad meaning.

It reflects the need of change in society which willproduce Women Empowerment in reality.

Empowerment refers to increase in thespiritual, social, economic and educationalstrength .

Conclusion

Neither men are superior to women nor women are superior to men.

They are also not equal in all respect because nature has assigned them different jobs and different needs.

Women should not be ill treated. They should be

given all rights.

No doubt there are always some restrictions on both men and women considering social norm, religion and long term effects.

These may be criticised .But they need to be followed .

These may vary on gender basis but they should not produce injustice on gender basis.
