Dear Ladies of WBF,Mentoring.I was reminded a few days ago, about the intrinsicreward of mentoring. A young girl, who did aninternship with us, while attending The Universityof Houston, sent me an email that filled me with asense of pride and joy. It was an email informingme that she had been selected as the “eventleader” for the upcoming Beyoncé concert to beheld at NRG Stadium. After only a few short yearswith Aramark, (the management team for allevents being hosted at Reliant) this young lady wasable to prove that she was both experienced andresponsible enough to be offered such a position. A few short days later, while working in our FortWorth venue, a young man came in bearing a giftand asked for one our my co-workers. A while later,Mara, our Sales Manager, shared that the youngman was someone she mentored while in collegein Chicago and he happened to be in Dallas for afew days working and just wanted to stop by andthank her for all the support she offered him whilein college. Needless to say, she was shocked andbeamed with happiness.I am certain each of you have similar stories andcan appreciate how important it is for each of us tohelp out the next generation. It’s amazing how alittle time and effort, can positively impact lives. Yours,
Linda

The Texas Repertory Theatre Co., Houston’s UptownClassic Theatre, continues its 11th Anniversary “EmergingVisions” Season with a World Premiere dramatization oftrue life events in Charles French's Hair Like the Sun,opening March 17th. On February 19, 1942, President Franklin D. Rooseveltsigned Executive Order 9066, designating certain areasof the United States West coast as military zones. Thisorder paved the way for the unlawful imprisonment of120,000 Japanese Americans in internment camps. Hairlike the Sun is the story of one family’s efforts to findkindness and dignity amidst the harsh reality of a nationat war. Based on true events, this inspirational World Premierenew play tells a unique story from this oft-forgottenperiod, of a young girl who witnessed the deplorableconditions, and struggled first-hand with the fear andindifference of a nation only to find redemption andlife-changing friendship in the most unlikely of places. The Texas Repertory Theatre production of Hair Like theSun features Jenna Malisheski, Sally Burtenshaw, Susan
