WHERE LOVE AND BUSINESS UNITE

Street Business School is not a typical business school. It’s a mobile classroom with trainings held in and tailored to the community. This proven love + business model brings marginalized people around the planet together into self-sufficiency. It is built on 3 overarching and key components:

1. Selection: Identifying impoverished “necessity entrepreneurs” who can take advantage of this unique model. • Locus of Control - Belief that you can change your own circumstances rather than being a victim of

fate•Pathway to Success - Belief that you can, and should succeed, regardless of the odds•Hard Work - Willingness to work hard and recognize that nobody else will do it for you•Age - Generally, women between the ages of 24-50, who realize they need to be able to support themselves rather than depend on others

2. Business Content: Practical and immediately-relevant content for women living in poverty. •Capital - Starting small •Money Management - Savings, personal vs. business money, prioritizing needs•Bookkeeping - Skills and tools to determine profit vs. loss• Research and Planning - Answering key questions about a potential business before you start it•Growing a business - Product quality, promotion, differentiation, getting and keeping customers•Resiliency - Surviving inevitable challenges and remaining sustainable

3. Relationship Development: Creating a foundation of trust between trainers and participants to overcome the disenfranchisement of the poor and allow them to claim their brilliance, sense of self and right to succeed. Our coaching is a balance between requiring that participants do it for themselves, and provideing tailored business advice and encouragement so each participant builds confidence and belief in her own ability to succeed. •Coaching - Trainers create a relationship of love, respect, care and accountability that recognizes the multiple barriers the poor face.•Credibility - Content delivered not only by trainers, but also by alumnae participants who were in the same situation as current participants •Customization - 1:1 interaction in which trainers provide coaching appropriate to each participant’s circumstances

Thank you for joining us on this journey around the globe. Most critically, thank you in advance on behalf of every woman that you help move out of poverty, for good.

WOMEN’S GLOBAL PRENEUHER GROUP – DONATING AIRLINE MILES

This is simple! Members of WGG can support BeadforLife and other professional women engaged with us by transferring their airline miles to BeadforLife. These miles could support a woman traveling to Uganda for an opportunity to coach and mentor Street Business School students or alumnae, or could be avaliable for BeadforLife to utilize as SBS goes global.

How it works: Most airline loyalty programs allow you to transfer miles to anotherperson, if that person is enrolled in the same airline’s miles rewards program (i.e. United Mileage Plus, AAdvantage, Delta Sky Miles, etc.). Transfers typically have minimum and maximum mileage limits fortransfers. Some airlines may charge a transfer fee.

Pleasecheckwithyourairlineforspecificsabouttheirtransfer programs. Or, links to some preferred airlines can be found here:

Delta AIrlines: http://www.delta.com/content/www/en_US/support/faqs/skymiles/transfer-miles-faqs.html American Airlines: https://www.aa.com/i18n/AAdvantage/earnMiles/buy-gift-share.jsp and https://buymiles.aa.com/en/share/faq United: https://buymiles.mileageplus.com/united/index_en.html Alaska: https://www.alaskaair.com/mileageplan/ssl/TransferMiles/TransferMiles.aspxFrontier: https://buy.points.com/marketing/frontier/

Note: BeadforLife has found that KLM (partnered with Delta) offers some of the best flight options to Uganda. United (partnered with Brussels Airlines through Star Alliance) is also a nice option. Miles donated through these airlines are especially helpful!

WOMEN’S GLOBAL PRENEUHER GROUP - TRAVEL TO UGANDA

Professional Business Women’s Trip March 16-24, 2019

This exciting, hands-on trip is designed for professional women to use their skills, knowledge, and talents to further enhance the businesses of women who have already graduated from BeadforLife’s business training program.

This itinerary is tentative, and may be modified, as things can easily change once we’re on the ground in Uganda.

To apply for this trip please contact [email protected].

Arrival Day: Saturday, March 16

Given that there will be a variety of arrival times, there is no programming scheduled, and lodging and meals in-country are included beginning with lunch and/or dinner on this day. If you arrive early, feel free to eat at the hotel restaurant and charge it to your room.

Evening: You are welcome to join us for dinner this evening at the hotel restaurant. This group dinner is optional; if you’d prefer to relax in your room, and eat earlier or later than what we announce, feel free to do so and charge it to your room.

Day 1: Sunday, March 17

Morning: Welcome breakfast/trip orientation.

Optional opportunity to go to services at a local church. Otherwise, you have the morning to relax and take it easy.

Afternoon: After lunch we will head to a popular tourist destination, the National Mosque in Old Kampala. The foundation for this magnificent building was built over 30 years ago in Amin’s time, but the mosque wasn’t finished until just a few years ago. The top of the minaret provides a sweeping view of all of Kampala.

Evening: We will attend a performance of the Ndere Dancers – a cultural dance troupe that performs the traditional dances and songs from the different regions of Uganda. It is “dinner theater” style, so we will eat local food as we enjoy the performance.

Day 2: Monday, March 20

7

Day 2: Monday, March 18

Morning: After breakfast we will head to the BeadforLife office for an overview presented by BFL Leadership staff.

Afternoon: Lunch will be at the BeadforLife office where you’ll be able to eat with, and get to know, BeadforLife staff. We’ll be spending the afternoon in the field attending a live Street Business School training. The session will be 2-3 hours long.

Evening: Group dinner

Day 3: Tuesday, March 19

Morning: You will spend time at the business of a current or alumna student of Street Business School. This will be an opportunity for you to see how she is applying the lessons you observed in the training session, and see where you can make suggestions based on your own skills and experience. Most importantly, this is a chance to get a deep look at her day-to-day life and learn what it is like!

Afternoon: Prepare to get your hands dirty! Irene Namaganda, who worked for BeadforLife for many years, went on to start a project called Engage in Action to Salvage Earth (EASE) in the Namuwongo slum. They garden and produce bio-char as an alternative to charcoal for cooking, and also run a trash recycling program. This will be a hands-on experience working alongside the women of EASE. It will also be an opportunity to spend time in this slum community where BeadforLife enrolled many of its earlier members.

Evening: Group dinner

Day 4: Wednesday, March 20

Morning: This morning will be spent at the BFL office preparing/setting up for the Coaching Fair happening the following day.

Afternoon: You’ll have the afternoon to prepare for the small presentation and coaching that you will be doing at the Coaching Fair the following day.

Evening: Group dinner

Day 5: Thursday, March 21

Morning & Afternoon: Today is the day you’ve been looking forward to, our Coaching Fair! Held in the open-air, there will be several tents set up for each business topic (i.e., marketing, customer service, etc.). Each professional business woman will “man” their respective tent, and coach alumnae. This will be a one-on-one coaching opportunity, sort of like speed coaching.

Evening: Group dinner

Day 6: Friday, March 24

8

Day 6: Friday, March 22

Morning: Today, we hope to visit Kampala-based companies that are in-line with the professional career/interests of trip participants. This will give you an opportunity to see how the professional business sector operates in Uganda. It will be a time for you to gain information, ask questions, and reflect on how industry varies from country to country and continent to continent.

Afternoon: After lunch, we will go to the M-Lisada Children’s Center, a program for street kids who are learning performance skills to support themselves. These kids will melt your heart!

Evening: Group dinner

Day 7: Saturday, March 23

Morning: Today, we’ll be heading east of Kampala to the city of Jinja, where we’ll visit the headwaters of Lake Victoria, where the Nile River is thought to begin. After visiting the Nile, we’ll eat lunch in Jinja before starting back to Kampala.

Afternoon: Optional souvenir shopping at Buganda Road market, which is filled with local crafts.

Evening: Final group dinner

Day 8: Sunday, March 24

We will play this day by ear, depending on flight schedules and group desires. Lunch this day is the last meal included in the trip, but for those of you with late departures, we will make sure your day is well-spent and that you make it to the airport on time. We might do some last-minute souvenir shopping, walk around the botanical gardens in Entebbe, go to the zoo, participate in chimpanzee viewing… and for those with late flights we will have dinner on the lakeshore.

For those of you adding on the optional safari to Murchison Falls, this will be a day for you to rest and relax at the hotel, and to pack your bags and get ready for the amazing safari.

Day 9: Monday, March 25

Morning and Afternoon: We’re off to Murchison Falls National Park! On our way we will drive across the spectacular Karuma Falls for your first crossing of the Nile, have a picnic lunch en route, then enter the park through the north entrance. We will spend the afternoon on a game drive down to the delta where the Nile enters Lake Albert. The game drive will last about 4 hours. We’ll plan to check into our lodge in time for sundowners overlooking the river before dinner.

Evening: Group dinner

Optional Safari

9

Day 10: Tuesday, March 26

Morning: We’ll be getting up early this morning for another game drive. This is the best time to have a shot at seeing lions returning from the night’s hunt, so we want to make sure we get out there as early as possible! You can never be sure what animals you will see, but some of the notable species in the park are: elephant, hippo, giraffe, lion, leopard, warthog, Uganda kob, hartebeest, oribi, crocodile, and TONS of birds! We will have lunch back at our lodge.

Afternoon: After lunch, we’ll embark on a boat safari up the Nile, which takes 2-3 hours, to a view of the base of Murchison Falls. You will pass through pods of hippos and floats of crocodiles, and will be amazed by the abundant bird life along the shores. This ride also tends to be very relaxing after days of bumpy driving on Ugandan roads.

Evening: Group dinner

Day 11: Wednesday, March 27

Morning: After checking out of the lodge, we will proceed to the top of the spectacular Murchison Falls, where the 100-yard-wide Nile River blasts through a 7 yard-wide cleft in the rocks. The power of this waterfall is mesmerizing. This is the spot where Churchill coined the phrase “The Pearl of Africa”, as a description of Uganda, and is the waterfall that the head of the Royal Geographic Society in the late 1800s called “the most exciting thing that happens to the Nile in its 4,000 mile journey.”

Afternoon: We will eat a packed lunch at the Top of the Falls, then drive back to Kampala in time for a late dinner.Day 12: Thursday March 30We will play this day by ear, depending on flight schedules and group desires, and as described on the Day 8 departure date above.
