SUN BELT JOINS FIGHT AGAINST OVARIAN CANCERSeptember is National Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month, and beginning this Thursday and continuing through the weekend, Sun Belt Conference women’s soccer programs will wear specially designed warm up jerseys in support of Texas State head coach Kat Conner, who was diagnosed with ovarian cancer last year.

The Sun Belt Conference women’s soccer programs stand in solidarity to spread awareness of the signs and symptoms of ovarian cancer to all women. Ovarian cancer is known as the “silent killer” because symptoms mimic almost identically those of IBS, or Irritable Bowel Syndrome. Through responsiveness, and spreading the word to others, Conner hopes to educate all women about potential symptoms.

The 2016 Sun Belt Conference Women’s Soccer

Championship will be held in Foley, Ala. at the Foley

Sports Tourism Complex, November 2-6.

SUN BELT STUDENT-ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

ASHLYNN JONESSOUTH ALABAMA | JR | FAshlynn Jones scored the game-winning goal against Ole Miss to help the Jaguars to an undefeated weekend. Jones hit the back of the net in the 10th minute off a pass from Alexis Jordan for the only goal of the contest. She put four of her six total shots over two games on target, including all three against Ole Miss, which advanced to the round of 16 in the NCAA Tournament last season.

ALEXIS JORDANSOUTH ALABAMA | FR | DEFJordan played a key role in the Jaguars’ two 1-0 shut-outs over the weekend, and assisted on the game-win-ning goal against Ole Miss. Her cross in the 10th minute found Ashlynn Jones who put it home for the only goal of the contest. Jordan also put her only shot of the game on net. She played 90 minutes against an opponent that reached the round of 16 in the NCAA Tournament last season and started in the Jags’ clean sheet at Austin Peay. The Jaguars have won three straight 1-0 contests for the first time in school history.
