• Aileen Galicia’s five goals so far this season pushes her career total to 10, tying with Crystal Burns (2009-10) for fourth on the all-time list.

ENTERING THE COUGAR’S DEN• Houston enters the match with a 4-1-1 mark and 2-1 record when playing at the Carl Lewis Complex.

• The Cougars are riding a one game winning streak after their 2-0 victory over UTSA on Sept. 18.

• UH has held opponents to just four goals this season to go with a dismal .063 shooting percentage.

• Two days prior, UH fell to UC Riverside 3-0 at home.

• Houston and NM State have played a similar opponent in Texas State. The Aggies took down the Bobcats 2-1 in extra time while UH tied with Texas State, 0-0, after extra time.

• Hannah Dauzat paces Houston with nine points (4g, 1a) while Selena Peters sits right behind her with eight points (3g, 2a).

• Brook Ruyon and Vanessa Almaguer are the other players with goals on the year.

• Rachel Estopare has seen most of the action in the cage for Houston, logging 481:49 minutes of play with a 0.75 goals against average and .826 saves percentage.

KEEPING AN EYE ON THE FIRESTORM• Arizona Christian is 2-1-1 on the year entering this week. The Firestorm is schedule to play Hope International at home before making the drive down I-10 to face New Mexico State.

• ACU recently fell to NAIA foe No. 11 Biola 6-1 on the road.

• The Firestorm has knocked in 12 goals this year while holding opponents to just eight. They had held opponents to just two goals before Tuesday’s loss to Biola.

• Makenna Newman leads all scorers with 16 points (6g, 4a). Marisa Ortiz is next on the team with six points (3g) while Zoe Kalos checks in with five points (2g, 1a) as Grace Koury rounds out the scorers with one goal.

• Serenity Masterson has started all four matches for Arizona Christian in the cage with a 1.98 goals against average and .765 saves percentage.

LAST TIME OUT• The Aggies dropped both of their matches last week by a score of 2-0 to Battle of I-25 rival New Mexico on the road and Nevada at home.

• The two goals NM State gave up at UNM came within two minutes of one another, beginning with the first goal in the 62nd minute

• At home against the Wolfpack, NM State went down 1-0 in the first half before giving up the second goal in the 73rd minute.

• Sophomore Ashley Martin went 233:31 minutes without giving up a goal until the 61:11 mark against the Lobos.

LOOKING AHEAD• The Aggies get about 11 days off before they open conference play on Oct. 7 against Chicago State at noon.

• NM State then hits the road the next day as it travels to UMKC for another noon time match up on Oct. 9.

• The following week (Oct. 14-16) the Aggies return home to host Seattle U and Utah Valley.

GALICIA TABBBED OFFENSIVE POW• After putting up a natural hat trick against Idaho State on the road, sophomore Aileen Galicia was named the WAC Offensive Player of the Week.

• The honor was the first for any NM State player this season and the first since Rian Nials was named defensive player of the week on Sept. 28 last season.

• Galicia’s hat trick was just the second in program history behind Yolanda McMillion’s hat trick back on Aug. 29, 2010, against Prairie View A&M.

• The six points for the Indio, Calif., native was the most in a game since 2014 when Jennae Cambra tallied six points of her own on two goals and two assists.

MEETING THE NEWCOMERS• Cristina Bertoldo, Amy Gulczynski and Danielle Smith came to Las Cruces via junior colleges.

• Bertoldo, a Las Cruces native, returns home to play for the Aggies after spending her the last two seasons at Chandler Gilbert Community College. The junior earned all-region honors her second year with CGCC after posting a region-best 14 assists to go with her two goals.

• Gulczynski comes to the Land of Enchantment after spending last season at Phoenix College. The 5-8 midfielder received National Junior Athletic Association Honorable Mentions after scoring 25 points (8g, 9a) her freshman year.

• Smith, a Paso Robles, Calif., product joins NM State after spending the last two season at Feather River College. She had a dominating sophomore campaign, posting a team best 31 points (9g, 13a) and guided FRC to a second-place finish.

• Of the eight freshmen that joined in the mix, three will play in the midfield (Jess McDow, Adriana ‘Tuti’ Tirado, Alyssa Mireles), three at forward (Valerie Maestas, Reilly Marks, Kyleigh Cox), one in defense (Kelly Burton) and one in the cage (Raeann Garcia).

• All eight have led their respective teams to league or region titles while two led their teams to state championships.

• McDow, a two-time state champion at La Cueva High School, boasted a 65-16-1 mark during her prep career and posted 66 points (26g, 14a) her senior campaign. The 5-9 midfielder will compliment returners, Galicia and Abdelkader in the Aggie attack.

• Tirado, aka Tuti, adds depth and speed as well as considerable amount of international experience. The American Military Academy grad played alongside Dominique Rivera with the Puerto Rican Junior National Team.

• Mireles joins an experience group of midfielders with an equally as impressive resume, coming from Las Vegas High School as one of the most decorated players in program history.

• Maestas, a state champion at Eldorado High School, joins two other newcomers on the attacking front. Like Tirado, Maestas comes with an extra speed when it comes to quickness as well as scoring prowess. She led EHS to three-straight New Mexico State Cup Championships (2012-14) and guided the Eagles to a 63-14-1 record during her four years. Checking in at 5-7,

• Marks adds some considerable size for the Aggies opposite of Audrey Chavez. As a senior, the Tucson, Ariz., product led Salpointe Catholic High School to a 23-2 overall record and 6-0 mark in section VI play, earning her AllSportsTucson.com Division II Player of the Year.

• Rounding out the new flock of forwards is Las Cruces native, Kyleigh Cox. A standout at Mayfield High School on and off the field, Cox helped guide the Trojans to a district championship her freshman year. The homegrown talent finished her senior campaign with 14 points (5g, 4a) and earned all-district honors. She was also an all-state runner on the track team for MHS.

• On the defending end, Burton has a familiar face in Maestas. The Albuquerque product along with transfers Bertoldo and Smith add depth to an already formidable back line in Stockton, Rivera and Afonso.

• Garcia joins a very young group of goalkeepers and could start in the season-opener against UTEP. A four-year letter winner at O’Connor High School, Garcia led the Panthers to a 15-1 record her sophomore year while tallying all-district honors. In total, she only allowed nine total goals in district play her entire prep career.
