EVANGELIZATION

Cursillo (cur SEE yo) is a voluntary Lay

Movement of the Catholic Church started

in Spain, which presents a method and

strategy for living basic Christian Ideals.

The inherent message of Cursillo is to

share one’s Christianity in the normal

everyday activities of life … with your

family, in your workplace, in your

neighborhood, in your parish community,

and throughout the whole world.

Our Mission is the Church’s mission.

We’re fully Catholic, and obedient to the

Magisterium. Cursillo was endorsed by

Pope Paul VI (1966), Pope John Paul II

(1980) mentioned Cursillo as one of the

tools of the New Evangelization, and

Pope Francis (2011) wrote an inspiring

letter encouraging cursillistas in their

work in Argentina.

Cursillo in the Archdiocese of Detroit is a

voluntary lay administered organization

founded in 1962, and focused on

evangelization. Cursillo collects no dues

or fees of its member participants.

Jesus said…"Abide in Me, and I in you…for apart from Me you can do

nothing.“

I leave you now with this prayer: that the Lord Jesus will reveal Himself to each one of you, that He will give

you the strength to go out and profess that you are Christian, that He

will show you that He alone can fill your hearts. Accept His freedom and

embrace His truth, and be messengers of the certainty that you

have been truly liberated through the death and resurrection of the Lord

Jesus. This will be the new experience, the powerful experience, that will

generate, through you, a more just society and a better world.

God bless you and may the joy of Jesus be always with you!

-Saint, Pope John Paul II

Karol Wojtyla fell in love with the Lord at a very youngage, and in an environment that was anything butloving and compassionate and forgiving. The man whowould become a priest, a bishop, a Cardinal, and PopeJohn Paul II, freely gave of himself in all of the eras of hislife. As a young priest he was noted for teaching youngstudents and parishioners in a compassionate manner, always directing them toward our Loving Mother, whoalways tells us to do whatever her son tells us to do. Hispersonal motto became Totus Tuus …… forever yours,

and he had it inscribed for all the world to see on a walloverlooking the piazza in front of Saint Peter’s Basilica. He took everything to the Lord in prayer. He advisedLech Walesa to stand strong in the face of potentialCommunist violence in opposition to the formation ofSolidarnosc, but to never forget to take the struggle tothe Lord in prayer. He forgave the man who attemptedto assassinate him and prayed with the man when hevisited him in his prison cell. Surely Pope John Paul II was(and is) a man of great piety.

His great personal friend and successor, JosephRatzinger took the name Benedict XVI when he waselevated to the chair of Saint Peter. Pope (Emeritus)Benedict is one of the most intelligent theologians theworld has known. He had composed over 30 bookseven before he became the supreme pontiff. DeusCaritas Est (God is Love) was his first encyclical (of three). And his trilogy, Jesus of Nazareth, will be studied andunpacked for its great wisdom and teaching fordecades to come. Pope Benedict is surely a man ofintense and rewarding study.

Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio, who became PopeFrancis last year has always been a man of greatcompassion for the poor, both in his native Argentinaand now throughout the world. Taking the name ofFrancis he reminds us of the life and dedication ofFrancis of Assisi to those in need around him. Like Francishe suggests to us all that we become instruments of HisPeace, actively living our Faith in the world. Surely thesegreat men has shown us what it means to be the livingembodiment of Piety, Study and Action. 7

Church of the Beatitudes Sea of Galilee - ISRAEL

JOHN 6: 1-14After this, Jesus went across the Sea of Galilee. A largecrowd followed him, because they saw the signs he wasperforming on the sick. Jesus went up on the mountain, and there he sat down with his disciples. The Jewish feastof Passover was near. When Jesus raised his eyes andsaw that a large crowd was coming to him, he said toPhilip, “Where can we buy enough food for them to eat?”He said this to test him, because he himself knew what hewas going to do. Philip answered him, “Two hundreddays’ wages worth of food would not be enough for eachof them to have a little. One of his disciples, Andrew, thebrother of Simon Peter, said to him, “There is a boy herewho has five barley loaves and two fish; but what goodare these for so many?” Jesus said, “Have the peoplerecline.” Now there was a great deal of grass in that place. So the men reclined, about five thousand in number. Then Jesus took the loaves, gave thanks, and distributedthem to those who were reclining, and also as much ofthe fish as they wanted. When they had had their fill, hesaid to his disciples, “Gather the fragments left over, sothat nothing will be wasted.” So they collected them, and filled twelve wicker baskets with fragments from thefive barley loaves that had been more than they could eat. When the people saw the sign he had done, they said,“This is truly the Prophet, the one who is to come into theworld.”

RELICS

People who have been

going to Mass for so long,

HYMN

A song of praise usually

sung in a key three octaves

higher than that of the

congregation's range.

An American tourist stood by the Wailing Wall of Jerusalem.

Seeing a Rabbi leaning his head on the ancient stones, he asked him what he prayed for at that sacred place.

"I pray for peace and understanding in this land and among its three faiths," the Rabbi said.

"How does that make you feel," the American persisted.

"Like I'm talking to a wall."

The children were lined up in the cafeteria of a Catholic elementary school for lunch. At the head of the table was a large pile of apples. The nun made a note, and posted on the apple tray: "Take only ONE. God is watching."

Moving further along the lunch line, at the other end of the table was a large pile of chocolate chip cookies. A child had written a note, "Take all you want. God is watching the apples.

Lost on a rainy Friday night, a priest stumbles into a monastery and requests shelter there. Fortunately, he's just in time for dinner and was treated to the best fish and chips he's ever had.

After dinner, he goes into the kitchen to thank the chefs. He is met by two brothers, "Hello, I'm Brother Michael, and this is Brother Francis."

"I'm very pleased to meet you. I just wanted to thank you for a wonderful dinner. The fish and chips were the best I've ever tasted. Out of curiosity, who cooked what?"

Brother Michael replied, "Well, I'm the fish friar."

Father turns to the other brother and says, "Then you must be...."

"Yes, I'm afraid I'm the chip monk..."

The eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain

to which Jesus had ordered them. When they saw

him, they worshiped, but they doubted. Then Jesus

approached and said to them, “All power in heaven

and on earth has been given to me. Go, therefore,

and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the

name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy

Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have

commanded you. And behold, I am with you always,

until the end of the age.”
