SLOW COOKING TIPS FOR WINTER

* Only half fi ll your crockpot (²/³ is max) to allow your food to cook properly.

* Food at the bottom cooks faster and will be moister.

* Slow cookers make cheap cuts of meat extremely tender and delicious.

Most oil heaters are defi nitely better than blow-drying air heaters, they do not dry out your skin or leave you feeling dehydrated.

4 BRIGHT IDEAS YOU CAN DO YOURSELF

Keep yourself busy with these great DIY projects.

1 Daily planner

Using masking tape and a spirit level, mark out a square on your wall. Fill in the space with a roller and chalkboard paint. Get out the chalk and start making lists!

2 Crockery face lift

Choose a plain teapot and mug and stick a plastic bag over the areas you don’t want to paint. Taking care around the edges, choose a matching hue and spray the exposed parts for a playful teatime update.

3 Sitting pretty

Paint an old slatted pine chair white. Then draw a straight line along the back and tape off the bottom section of each rung with masking tape. Paint the top section of the chair in a trendy tone to create an elegant seat.

4 Feet fi rst

Find a plain mat with a smooth surface. Stick down masking tape in a chevron pattern. Using a roller, carefully paint over the tape and allow to dry completely. Remove the tape and you will have a striking new fl oor accessory.
