English This term in English we will be reading a range of fiction and non-fiction texts. We will use stories and film clips linked to our world and use them to write our own stories. Year 2 will be writing explanation texts about a range of animals while Year 1 will be writing fact files about these animals. History / Geography We will be using Geography and our topic of ‘Our Wonderful World’ to lead our learning this term. We will name, locate and identify characteristics of the four countries and capital cities of the UK and surrounding seas. We will learn about the PE Our focus over the term will be on dance and team games. In dance, we will learn dances using simple movement patterns linked to our topic of our wonderful world. We will create dances imagining we are exploring Antarctica. We will also look at different dances from around the world and have a go at Science In Science this term Year 2 will be investigating different animal groups and considering why and how each group is different. Additionally, we will study the habitats of different animals and look at how they are suited to their environment, drawing on our geography knowledge to help us. We will then move on to looking Art and Design In Design and Technology we will learn about where our food comes from and use this to design and prepare our own dishes from different countries around the world. We will consider the basic principles required to make a healthy and balanced meal. In Art, we will study a Computing In Computing we will use technology safely and respectfully, keeping personal information private; identify where to go for help and support when we have concerns about content or contact on the internet or other online technologies. We will also use a range of technology Mathematics We will be using our place value to solve problems, by adding and subtracting within a range of numbers suitable to our ability. We will remember how to calculate using money, measure weight and practise telling the time. We will continue to learn about shape and use position, direction and Our Wonderf ul World Religious Education (RE) In RE in Year 1 this term we will be learning more about Christianity. We will be learning about Easter and its significance to Christians. In Year 2 this term we Music In Music, we will be listening to a range of live and recorded music including music from other countries. We will then use this to create our own music using a range of tuned and untuned instruments. We will

EnglishThis term in English we will be reading a range of fiction and non-fiction texts. We will use stories and film clips linked to our world and use them to write our own stories. Year 2 will be writing explanation texts about a range of animals while Year 1 will be writing fact files about these animals. We will be writing diaries and recounts of different peoples journeys around the world. We will also use a range of animal poems to write our own descriptive poetry, riddles and use these to perform expressively for an audience.

History / GeographyWe will be using Geography and our topic of ‘Our Wonderful World’ to lead our learning this term. We will name, locate and identify characteristics of the four countries and capital cities of the UK and surrounding seas. We will learn about the geographical similarities and differences through studying the human and physical geography of countries. We will use world maps, atlases and globes to identify the United Kingdom and its countries as well other countries and continents around the world.

PEOur focus over the term will be on dance and team games. In dance, we will learn dances using simple movement patterns linked to our topic of our wonderful world. We will create dances imagining we are exploring Antarctica. We will also look at different dances from around the world and have a go at recreating these. We will continue to master basic skills including running, jumping, throwing and catching, as well as developing balance, agility and co-ordination, and begin to apply these in a range of activities.

ScienceIn Science this term Year 2 will be investigating different animal groups and considering why and how each group is different. Additionally, we will study the habitats of different animals and look at how they are suited to their environment, drawing on our geography knowledge to help us. We will then move on to looking at plants and thinking about the different things plants need to grow and stay healthy. In Year 1, we will be continuing with Seasonal change and looking at the different plants we see at this time of year. We will also be studying a range of animals including humans.

Art and DesignIn Design and Technology we will learn about where our food comes from and use this to design and prepare our own dishes from different countries around the world. We will consider the basic principles required to make a healthy and balanced meal. In Art, we will study a range of artists, craft makers and designers, describing the differences and similarities between different practices and disciplines. We will use clay to make our own plates and then use aboriginal art to decorate them.

ComputingIn Computing we will use technology safely and respectfully, keeping personal information private; identify where to go for help and support when we have concerns about content or contact on the internet or other online technologies. We will also use a range of technology purposefully to create, organise, store, manipulate and retrieve digital content whilst researching animals around us. We are also looking forward to creating our own database of information about the animals we research.

MathematicsWe will be using our place value to solve problems, by adding and subtracting within a range of numbers suitable to our ability. We will remember how to calculate using money, measure weight and practise telling the time. We will continue to learn about shape and use position, direction and movement to solve problems. In Year 1 we will find halves and doubles and count in 2s, 5s and 10s. In Year 2 we will find fractions of amounts and continue to work on multiplication and related division facts of the 2, 5 and 10 times table.

Year 1 & 2

Religious Education (RE) In RE in Year 1 this term we will be learning more about Christianity. We will be learning about Easter and its significance to Christians. In Year 2 this term we will offer the children the opportunity to explore Christianity and will learn about the Easter resurrection. We will then move on to learning about Judaism and exploring the festival of Passover.

MusicIn Music, we will be listening to a range of live and recorded music including music from other countries. We will then use this to create our own music using a range of tuned and untuned instruments. We will be given opportunities to use our voices expressively and creatively in the class, in Key Stage One and as a whole school.
