Communications Contest When: January 28th, 2017
Where: Woodford County Extension Office
Who: Any youth who writes a speech or demonstration!
Come out and compete against youth across the county at the 2017 Woodford
County 4-H Communications Contest! Both speeches and demonstrations are
accepted and category/age group winners receive $20 and a chance to compete at
the Area competitions in March and April. Those interested are invited to
participate in a 4-H Communications Contest Workshop, which will be held
mid-January and will offer an opportunity to learn about all that goes into giving a
4-H speech or demonstration. The workshop is being currently being planned so
watch out for the dates/times and sign-up information in early January!

including Country Ham Speeches!
Demonstrations All demonstrations are 5-15 minutes
long and include visual aids

4-H Livestock Skillathon Team Practice Begins in January
For those youth interested in joining the
Woodford County 4-H Livestock Judging
Team, signups will be available in January with
practices beginning after the 4-H Livestock
Skillathon season wraps up. 4-H Livestock
judging offers a great opportunity for youth to
develop critical
thinking skills while
learning about the
livestock industry. Youth will compete at several
competitions across the state with the opportunity to
compete at the 4-H State Livestock Judging competition
this upcoming June. For more information or to sign-up to

If you have an interest in livestock and a desire
to compete then come join our 4-H Livestock
Skillathon team. Practices take place 1-2 times
per week at the Woodford County Extension
Office starting on Wednesday, January 11th
from 4:00-5:30pm working up until the state
competition on Saturday, February 18th! 4-H
Livestock Skillathon is similar to an academic
team that focuses solely on livestock topics such
as breed identification, meat cuts, livestock feed
identification and other similar topics. For more information, come out to the 4-H
Livestock Club meeting on Tuesday, January 10th!

4-H Lego Robotics Team Sign-ups
Begin this Month!
It’s that time of year again! The Woodford County 4-H Lego
Robotics Club applications will be available Thursday,
January 12th at the Woodford County Extension Office and
will be due back to the Woodford County Extension Office by
Monday, January 30th. Cost is $15 which includes a club shirt
(new for 2017) and registration to the District 4 Lego Robotics
Competition. This year the club will feature two middle school
teams and two 4th/5th grade teams. Participants will also
participate in the Lego Robotics day during the Kentucky
State Fair in August of 2017.
Spots are limited and will be filled on a first-
come, first-served basis by submission of
application and fees. For more information or to

opportunity to learn and compete in a Lego
Robotics challenge!

to talk about the best practices for
curing your ham. Also we will be
previewing the 4-H Livestock Judging
program as practice begins for
Livestock Judging in late February!
Educational Meeting There will be no educational meeting
in January because of the 4-H Country
Ham curing process. The date for
curing will be sent to country ham
participants once it is released from
the state office. Please make sure to
check your emails to stay up-to-date.

4-H Dog Club leader. If yourself or
someone you know has an interest in
working with youth (and their furry friend!)
