Woodinville High School
Websites
• Obviously paint the school in a good light whether it be the WHS site or NSD site
• I looked for school ratings websites that weren’t affiliated with the school as well and got a similar vibe that the others gave
Care - Respect - Leadership
• School’s motto: and it actually is present in the school!– Sophomores were Care- to care for the new
school and campus– Juniors were Respect- getting older and showing
respect to the students and staff around them– Seniors were Leadership- leading other students
and running activities in the school
Atmosphere• Busy, busy, busy! Kids walk around with their
backpacks, they don’t really use lockers unless they have a sports bag– Makes for crowded hallways
• A Lot of hustle and bustle as kids get off and get on buses at the start and end of the day– End of day departure is about 5 min after class ends!
• Apparently a much cleaner campus since Commons was put in and food is only allowed there
• Not always a lot of respect shown for the school. I have to tell kids to pick up after themselves a lot.
• Does this come from the community that we are in? …Over privileged much?
• Cliquey of course- it’s a high school. Students end up in all places, (a place for everyone)– I don’t see a lot of isolated moments (good!!)
• Students with disabilities are involved as much as they can be in the classroom.
• Homecoming- they have a duke and duchess from the special ed. courses involved in the assembly and everyone cheers for them.
Thoughts from parents:

College?
• About 80% of students are placed and go on to college
• A room for just college and workforce resources in the main office.
• Colleges come to visit nearly everyday and students just need a parent signed permission slip to go to them
Teachers• Only some go down to the Commons for
lunch, that’s were we get to mingle with other departments
• All staff meetings about once a month, usually working on improving and brainstorming ideas for the school
• Some collaboration in biology dept, but others have gone their own way
Science in WHS• One biology teacher is forging her own road and
starting a new curriculum this year– Focus on the connections between units, and trying
to make a connection to environmentalism/ activism– Towards the end of the year, each teacher kind of
gets to go their own way and teach to their strengths• I get a vibe that some teachers think they are
‘harder/ tougher’ that others, or more academically rigorous.
Recourses used in classrooms• I wish I saw more technology!~
– The school laptops are stored in our back room and it’s mainly the English dept that checks them out
– Kids aren’t asked to do any computer work/ assignments
– Help** What can I do to use them in 50 min?• Otherwise it’s mainly beakers and hot plates
and various supplies that are chemical or from a grocery store.
