Dear Woodland Families! December is here and we are entering the holiday season! We have a lot to be grateful for at Woodland Elementary School, as our children, staff, parents, and community continue to make this one of the best places to learn. I look forward to continuing the outstanding learning experiences that your children have had all year, and we will continue this work into 2020! This is sure to be another year of amazing accomplishments! It was nice seeing you at our Parent/Teacher Conferences. If we were not able to catch up, please stop by and I hope to see you all soon! We continue to value our open communication with families. As a parent myself, I know how important it is to have questions answered, and to feel that level of comfort knowing that our children are well- cared for. If you ever have questions or concerns, I encourage you to reach out to your child ’s teacher early, so that we can continue to meet their needs. Developing our students as problem solvers continues to be the foundation of our work each day. At home, you too can help as we tell our kids to “give it a go! ” Most times, when children try something, they find success. Even better, sometimes they find out what doesn’t work! We try to normalize mistakes, failures, and learning gaps so that stu- dents see these as opportunities to grow. Often times our students are sharing what they tried in class, and how it better informed their choices as a reader, writer, mathematician, or as a friend! At home, have them try to cook with you, try to tie their shoes, wrap a present, make a shopping list, or simply try to do something new. These life experi- ences are what will propel them to becoming outstanding problem solvers and thinkers. That is our shared goal! As you know, our teachers work hard to meet every single need that our students present. In our past communica- tions, you saw information relative to our most recent Wisconsin School Report Card. Woodland Elementary School received a “Significantly Exceeds Expectations” from the Department of Public Instruction. Woodland Elementary continues to perform at high levels and all of us at the school are proud that we are one of the best in the state! As we enter the holiday season, I want all of you to know that Jill, Abigail, Michael, and I continue to be thankful that we are part of the Woodland community, and the Kimberly Area School District. The past five years have gone fast and we could not ask for a better community. A great big thank you to the Woodland PTO and all of the par-
ents that contributed to our teachers’ dinner during parent/
teacher conferences. There were delicious soups, sandwiches,
salads, a taco bar and goodies. The generosity of the Wood-
land Community is appreciated!

December 11, 2019 Dear Parents/Guardians, Our Personal Safety Program (teaching children a variety of safety life skills) will be present-ed during the month of January to 5K through 4
th grade students.
Through these presentations and discussions, students will become more aware about the world around them, physical and sexual abuse, safety with strangers, and what to do when home alone. Students will learn basic age appropriate methods for protecting themselves against unwanted physical touch and establishing a network of trusted adults that they can contact when needed. As parents, we would ask you to make some time this month and discuss your personal views and rules on staying safe. Working together we can help children better protect them-selves. We will send additional information home as it is presented. If would like to review the Personal Safety curriculum or have any questions, comments or concerns, please contact me at 730-0924.
