Williams Named Rotary Teacher Of The Year

Palvin Williams, middle school speech teacher, has been named Teacher of the Year by The Woodlands Chapter of the Rotary Club.  Mr. Williams has been a member of the Woodlands Christian faculty for the past two years. As first year director of our middle school theater program, Williams has directed two performances. The first was an original Christmas production written by Mr. Williams in which 40 students were involved. This spring, 25 of his students participated in the musical, School House Rock, Jr. In addition to his teaching and theatre duties, he coaches middle school basketball and track. As is true of all great teachers, Mr. Williams students are involved, engaged and excited to come to class each day. Williams holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in history from the University of Houston. He is actively involved with the local theatrical group, Christian Youth Theater where he teaches improvisation and directs various productions. “While my original life plan did not include becoming a teacher, God had a different plan for me. I am forever grateful to the Lord for re-directing my steps because I cannot imagine my life without being a teacher.”

Congratulations Mr. Williams!

Physics Students Design Electric Houses

Students in Mrs. Pam Masau’s college prep physics classes wrapped up their last project of the year by building an electric house. In this project, students were tasked with designing a simple four room house and from a single power source, provide light to each room. Each room was required to be on its own switch and not interfere with the lighting of any other rooms. In addition to the four main lights, students had to install a button and buzzer at the front door to simulate a doorbell and also add another indoor switch to light a front door entry. Students went above and beyond and designed great houses and even one restaurant, which earned them bonus points for décor and creativity!

Members of the sixth, seventh and eighth grade band recently traveled to San Antonio for the Performing Arts Consultants Musical Festival. The Warriors performed well with the 7th and 8th grade band earning gold level honors. The 6th grade band also turned in a solid performance earning them silver level honors. One of the judges from a large public school commented on how impressed he was with the difficulty of the music that both groups performed, and expressed his desire to have students like ours in his school’s feeder system!

Way to go Warrior musicians!

Bugs On Wheels

Instrument Petting Zoo

Fourth grade students spent a morning with the high school band listening to their most recent concert piece and then discussing various instruments used in the band program. Students were able to visit multiple stations where they were able to try out the instruments for themselves. It was a great way for the fourth graders to discover music and become familiar with the opportunities available to them as they prepare to enter middle school.

Middle School Bands Earn Honors At Competition

Pre-kindergarten and kindergarten students were fascinated by their interaction with unique and amazing examples of God’s creation with a visit from Bugs On Wheels. This program is an outreach of the Houston Museum of Natural Science. Staff members from the Cockrell Butterfly Center used exciting hands-on presentations to introduce students to the wonderful world of insects. Students were afforded the opportunity to touch a tarantula, a giant millipede, and even a hissing cockroach!
