About the poem. Pupils explore the characteristics of a woodpecker. Teacher can provide guidelines such
as its appearance, habitat or habit. Pupils pair up and read poem to each other. Get the pupils to read the poem using
different voice. Example: their own mother or father, a really mean or strict person, a cheerful voice, an opera singer’s voice.
Week 2
Discuss the poem.o Why woodpecker pecks?o Name other animals that behave strangely.o In the poem, the author sees the woodpecker as a guest knocking on the door. If
you are the woodpecker, how do you know if anyone is in or out? Make a beak and read the poem with intonation.
