ANNUAL REPORT 10

PRESIDENT/CHAIRMAN’S REPORT

I think the events of the finals series for 2018 will go down as one of the most bizarre endings to a football season in the history of the SANFL. Losing the preliminary final the way we did, giving up a lead of over 40 points and then after the game finding out that North Adelaide had played part of the last quarter with 19 men on the ground, certainly got the emotions of most members going. From my point of view these events have and will only galvanise the playing group to strive for the ultimate prize. When the dust settled we learnt that our senior coach of nearly 10 years, Michael Godden accepted a position with the Adelaide Crows. This in my mind will be a decision that will commence a new era for the Club. I would like to personally congratulate Michael for his time with the Club and his dedication to coaching the players in the manner that he did. Michael you are a Premiership Coach and your professionalism has paved the way to your next venture. To you, Trish, Jake, Mikayla and Emma we wish you all the best. To the Board, thank you for your support and commitment during 2018. Our financial position over the past year has strengthened placing the Club in good stead financially. For this to have occurred we need to thank the efforts of Chris Branson, General Manager, Commercial Operations and Luke Powell, General Manager, Football. As you would be aware, Chris has since moved on and we thank him for what he has done for the Club. To Luke, well done on securing the position of CEO, and we are all looking forward to working with you to keep the Club heading in the right direction. To the staff of the Club, once again thank you for your commitment and the tireless hours that you commit to the Club. Your efforts are noted. Congratulations to James Boyd on winning the 2018 Club Champion award. You had an outstanding year. To Jack Lukosious, congratulations on being drafted to the Gold Coast Suns. Pick two in the draft is an unbelievable effort and you and your family must be very proud. Also to Kai Pudney and Martin Frederick being selected by the Port Adelaide Football Club, drafted as next generation academy players, congratulations. The work commitment and belief has paid off and I am sure the 2018 season has set you both up for long and rewarding careers. While talking about the above three players, I should also congratulate Shane Reardon and his coaching team and all the under 18 players for winning the 2018 Torrens University Cup. This premiership was a credit to all of you. The game itself was an outstanding display of SANFL football with the EAGLES winning by 5 points. Once again, well done to all concerned. Mid-year, it was announced that the Club had been awarded a licence to compete in the State-wide Super Women’s League. With this announcement the Board and management established a Women in Football Committee which is chaired by our Finance Director, Christine Williams and strongly supported by Board member David Couzner. A Women’s Coach has been announced and I would like to congratulate Tess Baxter on winning this position. Tess is already flat out forming a team and getting everything ready for the season that commences in February 2019. While talking about coaches, I would like to congratulate Sam Lonergan for being selected as the Club’s new Senior Coach. Sam has signed a two-year contract and is keen to continue in the success of the previous two senior coaches that the Club has employed over the past 18 years. This stability is a major reason for the success of the Club playing finals in nearly all of the 18 previous years. Welcome Sam and all the best. Once again, I would like to thank the backroom staff and volunteers that help to make the Club operate, I again thank you for your strong and committed support. Without your efforts the Club would struggle to maintain its healthy operating position. The Club continues to maintain a very strong and valued relationship with many of the Partners that support our Brand and continue to want to support us. Once again thank you for your valued support. Growing membership is still an ongoing issue for the Club. It is important to understand that by joining as a member, whatever category you select will assist the Club greatly to achieve what you the member want. Our bar and bistro, Seven 22 at 722 Port Road Beverley, with some great work by Vicki Wright and staff, has grown throughout 2018. With new staff and a very family approach and a great new menu, I ask you to continue to support our venue.

PRESIDENT/CHAIRMAN’S REPORT (Cont.)

2019 is the year that we need to get behind our new Senior Coach, Sam Lonergan and Women’s Coach, Tess Baxter and consolidate all the good work we have done in the past and make a statement both on and off the field. Off field we need to continue to drive revenue and continue to set high standards. On field there will be changes with a number of the younger players given a chance to prove themselves again. To you all, I thank you for your continued support. I wish you and your families all the best for the new season and look forward to what 2019 brings. Go the EAGLES. KURT SLAVEN PRESIDENT/CHAIRMAN

LICENSED CLUBS REPORT

Eagles Function Centre The Eagles Function Centre continues to be successful, attracting several private functions throughout the year, as well as continuing our valuable relationship with the Veneto Club. The Veneto Club use our Function Centre for their monthly luncheons as well as other special functions throughout the year. In addition, they continue to host competitive 8Ball on Tuesday and Wednesday nights in our downstairs venue. Business and Home Match luncheons were a great success this year and thanks to the hard work undertaken by all, the numbers at our home match luncheons have significantly increased. I would like to thank the volunteers that help on game days, and/or the selling of raffle tickets on Bistro nights. Our Function Centre has once again achieved an Excellent 5-Star Food Safety rating which is a credit to all staff. A special thanks to Kuyan Hedaux our chef, kitchen and front of house staff for their continuous hard work throughout the year. Venue Manager Sam Conlon

Seven 22 As manager, I am pleased to report that Seven 22 remains extremely competitive. We have remained so due to continually exploring promotional opportunities and innovative ways to ensure we have people/customers in our venue. Every venue like ours need ‘people on seats” to remain viable and we have maintained that throughout the year by providing a clean, safe and friendly environment together with courteous, customer focussed staff and high-quality food. Head chef Marc continues to run an ‘on budget’ kitchen that has taken on a multi-cultural flavour with the addition of two new kitchen staff. Antonietta Noviello and Datljit Singh. Needless to say, the Italian and Indian cuisine has proved very popular with our customers. It is important to note our kitchen received a 5-star (highest rating) food safety rating which is a credit to the kitchen staff. Our function room remains booked each week with meetings, our ‘theme days’, ‘buy one (meal) get one free’ Fridays, happy hour every day and $5 pints all day Friday. These are just some of the things we do that make us attractive as a venue. The number of Christmas functions were up on last year and our two biggest days of the year – Mother’s Day and Melbourne Cup day were both highly successful. Seven 22 has sponsored many local sporting clubs and their support in return has proved valuable. We have a strong loyal following and I know people enjoy coming to Seven 22. Once again, we achieved above budget with gaming. I am confident this is in part due to offering a gaming room that is clean and comfortable. A wise investment was the purchase of 40 new gaming stools. The old ones were dated and uncomfortable. Patron comments have been most complimentary of the new stools, the two new gaming machines and five new game changes. We continue to work on the outside appearance of the venue with new plantings and garden design as well as maintenance. Potted plants in the gaming smoking area and outdoor dining area, offer a subtle softening to these areas. It is a great pleasure to work with a team of people who have created a wonderful environment for our patrons. Together as a team we continue to work hard to ensure Seven 22 remains at the forefront and a true local Community Club for all to enjoy. In closing, I wish to thank the Board of Directors and in particular, Christine Williams for her support and communication which has helped Seven 22 achieve another successful year.

MEMBERSHIP REPORT

Firstly, on behalf of the Board and Staff of the Club, we would like to thank all our members for their continued financial support in 2018. Although we did not take out the ultimate prize, now more than ever the Club relies on your continued support in not only being paid up members, but attending the games each week and getting behind the players to ensure we continue with our on-field success. We have ended the season with 2139 members. Of these, 1867 are financial members of which 65 are new. Although this is slightly down on last year and short of our target of 2000 financial members, this is a fantastic result for the Club. This year we had a record number of junior members with 244 paying members (80 up from last year). The Club continues to focus its efforts on our junior base as this is imperative to our Club to ensure this membership category continues to grow into the future. The Past Players and Officials have also rallied behind the Club continuing their fundraising group called “the Golden Eagles” where members contribute $100 to join. This, together with raffles/money cards at the 3 functions during the year, managed to raise $3,000 towards junior development squads which will provide for uniforms and equipment for these players. Anyone is welcome to join this fundraising group. Our second past players event on 8th July was an overwhelming success. In front of a sell-out crowd of over 250 people, we had Russell Ebert, Tim Ginever and Wayne Weidemann as guest speakers providing the crowd with many humorous stories from yesteryear. This day also coincided with the 30-year reunion of Woodville players from the 1988 Escort Cup winning Grand Final. We would like to thank our country and interstate members as they do not get the opportunity to attend many games but show tremendous loyalty to the Club by continuing to pay their membership each year. The pleasing news is that ticketed memberships will not be increasing for the 4th year in a row. This is great news for our members especially during these challenging times with the AFL etc. There are many membership categories to cater for everyone’s needs, so please ring Melissa McKenzie at the Club to discuss a membership package. The Board would like to thank Melissa McKenzie for her tireless efforts in the Membership Department and endeavouring to maintain and grow memberships for the Club. Again, I would like to thank you for your continued membership as this is an integral part of funding for the Club. Together, we can all work towards achieving our goal of over 2000 members. So, please pass this on to your family and friends (even purchasing a membership as a birthday/Christmas gift have been great ideas in the past) to ensure this great Club stays financially strong and continues its success on the field. Looking forward to seeing you all in 2019.

MARKETING & PARTNERSHIPS REPORT After another year in the role it has become further evident to me the important role our Commercial partners play in supporting our great Club. We are lucky to have so many long-term loyal partners that continue to support this Club and it is becoming more important than ever that our members support these organisations. You can find a list of our sponsors on the website with links to their websites, be sure to check them out. We are always looking to find new Commercial partners so, if you or anyone you know of, that might like to join our corporate community, please contact the Club and we can discuss the many options we have available including supporting our new women’s team. The continued broadcasting of SANFL on Channel 7 gives us and our Corporate Partners greater exposure on commercial TV and to the local community. In 2018 we were telecast five times including finals, however being a relatively strong performer in previous seasons it was disappointing to have only coverage for just two minor round matches. However, it is exciting to see that we will have four telecast games throughout the first thirteen rounds in the 2019 season with the final five rounds still to be confirmed. The Club again had some great events throughout the season. Eagles Business Luncheons with Malcolm Blight and Greg Ritchie, our Mid-Season Comedy Night with Paul Martell and the Eagles Quiz Night were all well attended and proved to be a great success. Our home match luncheons continue to grow with special guests such as Eagles legends Andrew Payze and Wayne Weidemann, SANFL greats Russell Ebert and Greg Whittlesea, current Eagles players Chris Hall and Jared Petrenko plus we had a special luncheon for our Eagles Teen Wellbeing Round with special guest Joe Williams. We will be sure to have plenty of great events in 2019, so please keep an eye on the Clubs social calendar on the Website or follow the Club on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter to keep up to date with what’s happening around the Club. 2019 is set to be the start of a new era at the Club with Luke Powell moving into the role of the CEO, a change of senior coach for the first time in 10 years with the appointment of Sam Lonergan and we are also about to take part in the SANFLW for the first time with our first match on Friday 15th February under the guidance of coach Tess Baxter. There is plenty to look forward to! Once again, a big thankyou to our corporate partners in 2018 for their terrific support throughout the year. To our members and supporters, thank you for your continued support throughout the season, I look forward to seeing you all cheering on the mighty Eagles again in 2019. COMMUNITY INITIATIVES & INDIGENOUS ENGAGEMENT

The 2018 season was very busy for the Woodville West Torrens Football club and one that kept the

Club in the front of all other SANFL Clubs for Community Initiatives and Indigenous engagement.

Indigenous Engagement – APY Lands

The WWTFC once again lead the

way in Indigenous engagement for

the SANFL Clubs by representing

both the SANFL and WWTFC in

the APY Lands for the opening

round in Indulkana in March

2018.

Luke Powell, Mick Godden and

David Couzner presented several

coaching clinics and participated

in match duties for the opening

round.

For the third year, the WWTFC hosted the APY Lands Thunder Men’s Representative side for a training

session at Maughan Thiem Hyundai Oval and a dinner with the league players. This is an annual

commitment the Club makes to the APY Lands communities leading up to the annual Don McSweeney

Aboriginal Lands Cup which is played at Adelaide oval in July.

The Club also made available a Reserves playing spot to the best APY Lands player, who again this year

was Ainsley Walker. Ainsley was provided with the opportunity to play for the WWTFC against North

Adelaide at Prospect Oval in July. Ainsely went on to kick two goals and received third best player for his

efforts.

In keeping with

our strong

alignment with the

APY Lands, this

year the WWTFC

utilised the APY

Thunder guernsey

in the WWTFC

colours.

The guernsey

represents all 7

APY Lands

communities.

ANNUAL REPORT 16

Torrensville Child and Family Centre Makeover Day

The WWTFC league and reserve players donated a weekend in March to give back to the Community

by improving facilities for the children at the Torrensville Child and Family Centre. A feature of the

day was the installation of a Cubby Fort. The players also installed vegetable planter boxes and

screening, painted the building’s exterior and fences, replaced doors, installed shelving, and repaired

retaining walls.

Walk for a Veteran with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder

The WWTFC players participated in the 4th

annual Walk for a Veteran which took place at

Henley on 27th July. The walk honours

veterans, emergency services personnel and

their families who have been affected by

mental illness due to their service, or family

member’s service of our country and their

Community.

The walk raises much needed funds and

awareness for organisations that support

veterans and emergency services mental well-

Mental Health Awareness Initiative

In June the Woodville West Torrens Football Club joined forces with UnitingCare Wesley Bowden

and the SA Mental Health Commission to promote Community education about teenage mental

health and wellbeing.

The Club identified that Mental illness in young people has many detrimental side effects such as

impaired academic achievement, unemployment, poor social functioning, substance abuse and

suicide. As the Club plays a major role in developing young men and women, the football department

believed it important to raise awareness and commence the discussion with the community on how

we can assist with managing this significant problem.

As a result, the WWTFC dedicated its televised Round

10 home game on 9th June against the Adelaide Crows

Reserves to raising awareness. A dedicated luncheon

and promotion were established to focus on the theme,

“It’s Ok, Not to feel OK! Lets Talk”. The luncheon

consisted of prominent guest speakers and a panel of

teen mental health specialists, who provided advice on

how we can all help promote good psychological

wellbeing in teens, but also how to notice the warning

signs that there may be a problem and how to access

assistance.

SENIOR COACH’S REPORT

The 2018 season is no doubt going to be remembered for that debacle that happened in the Preliminary Final. Clearly it was a significant day in all of our lives and a period of time I will never forget and will never forgive, but we must remember there was a full season of hard work that deserves to be recognised. The strength in this Club to keep fronting up never ceases to amaze me, the next step for the Club is to turn this consistency into Premierships. With Sam now at the helm, minimal player movement for a second year in a row and a focused playing group I am in no doubt this time is coming. The season started well for us having 2 solid wins. Then if the Preliminary wasn’t a strange enough situation for one season there was another one at Alberton Oval on April 14. In horrendous conditions the players never gave in to secure a draw against Port. After kicking 2 goals 16 behinds with both of our goals coming in the last 10 minutes it’s remarkable we got away with a draw. For the remainder of the season the players executed some strong consistent football to eventually finish 2nd on the ladder with 12 wins and put ourselves in a great position for the finals. The first final was a good result beating Sturt in strong fashion. The second final was always going to be tough as we hadn’t been able to beat Norwood all year. After a good performance by the players, Norwood delivered some classy football in some key moments to give them a 17-point win and a direct path into the Grand Final. Then the Preliminary Final. Without going over old scars we obviously had a very good start, but we couldn’t hold on losing by 5 points which ended our 2018 season. To finish the season one week early was both disappointing and frustrating. Like every year the players worked very hard to give themselves a chance to get back to a Grand Final, and as we know anything can happen once you get there. Sometimes things are out of your control, but as a Club I know we will rise above any controversy and fight, because that’s what the Eagles do. Congratulations to Shane Reardon and the Under 18’s in another great season culminating in that very exciting Premiership. Like with all of our grades it was fantastic to see the next generation of Eagles players performing on the big stage. Normally at this time I would thank the retirees, players, coaches, back room staff, board, staff, members and supporters. On this occasion I simply would like to thank everyone past and present because to single out everyone I would like to, just isn’t possible. What this Club and its people have done for me and my family I will never forget and will forever be indebted. I will say that I am proud I was, and am part of the Eagles Family. I have always been proud of the players and admire them as people and as competitors. I know I have many true great friendships that have been built through happy and tough times, and now as a supporter I look forward to watching the Club continue being a strength for many years to come. Go the Eagles

ANNUAL REPORT 29

CAPTAINS REPORT

Expectations were high heading into the 2018 Premiership season from everyone involved at the Eagles’ Football Club. From within, the playing group took the challenge on and prepared for a big year on the field. Unlike the previous year where there wasn’t big movement on the recruiting front, we welcomed in a host of quality players. Louis Sharrad, Tom Gray & Nathan Rudloff all came across from Port Adelaide. We were also lucky enough to have former players Jarrad Redden, Jake Von Bertouch & Seb Guilhaus return to the Club after varied absences. The Pre-season training never gets easier, but with the guidance of fitness guru, Lachy Hinds, the group was in good shape heading into the start of the year. As the season got under way, we had a few noticeable on-field absences. Jared Petrenko was fortunate enough to be involved in the TV program ‘House Rules’ for the first part of the season and reigning Best & Fairest, Joey Sinor, injured his ankle in a pre-season trial game. Both players were able to make it back by the middle of year and make great contributions once match fit.

As with every year under Michael Godden, we adapted our game plan in the pre-season to best suit our football Club going forward. There is always apprehension about how the players will execute these changes on the field. Although not playing brilliant football at times, we were able to put ourselves in a good position to challenge come finals time. On balance, we were in a similar position to previous years, but as a playing group we thought we had learned a lot throughout the year and so were quite optimistic heading into the finals series. The way the season eventually ended for us was extremely disappointing. Clearly our goal was to win the Premiership, but in an unprecedented situation our season ended with a controversial preliminary final loss. As a Club and individuals, we all must move on from what happened and shift our focus onto our next opportunity to win a flag. The contrary would mean we would be dwelling on something that we have no control over. From a player’s perspective, there were mixed feelings in the days and weeks after the SANFL handed down the final decision. It was quite a surreal time and one that we will never forget. As it turned out, the 2018 Preliminary Final would be the last game the Eagles Football Club was coached by Michael Godden. After

the season was said and done, the Adelaide Crows were lucky enough to secure his services as their midfield coach for the 2019 season. We were certainly very lucky to have Godsy lead our playing group for such a long period. His sustained passion and effort ensured he always put the Club in a great position, year in, year out over his nine years in charge. Michael was a great mentor for the players and guided us not only in our football lives, but for many of us, in our personal lives too. He gave us all the best chance to be a great person, not just a great footballer. We all wish Michael and his family the best and look forward to seeing them at the Club from time to time. They are Eagles for life. There are many others to thank for the 2018 season. The players are only one part of the Eagles family. We rely on a lot of others to ensure that we can do what we do best on the field. There are too many individuals to name, so to all of the coaches, medical and backroom staff, the players thank you for going above and beyond to ensure we are cherry ripe come game day. The Board and administration always work hard behind the scenes to ensure the Club is a great place to be. As players we don’t take this for granted.

CAPTAINS REPORT (cont.)

To the rest of the Eagles Family, members, supporters and sponsors, we thank you for investing your lives into the Eagles Football Club during the 2018 season. The players understand how lucky we are to have a great group of people who help support our success. Congratulations are in order for all of the high achievers for 2018. James Boyd had a stellar year and certainly deserved to be crowned the Club’s Best and Fairest player. Nick Hayes and Angus Poole shared the Jamie Tape Medal as the players MVP. Jack Hayes and Scott Lewis were rewarded with top three finishes in the Best and Fairest displaying great consistency throughout the year. Like with every year, we have some quality people whose time as a player comes to an end. Notably this year, Paul Stewart and Mark Borholm retired from SANFL Football. Both guys brought different skill sets to the Club, but both have great character and were much loved amongst the players. Both put their heart and soul on the line for our Club and gave us everything they had. We are sad to see them go but wish them all the best for their future endeavours.

Each year brings a different set of challenges. Next season we are set for an obvious change with new Head Coach Sam Lonergan taking charge. One thing that never changes at the Eagles Football Club is our consistent drive for the ultimate success. We look forward to putting everything we have into bringing this Club Premiership glory in 2019.

COACH’S REPORT – UNDER 18’s

The 2018 Under 18’s Torrens University Cup season was another season full of significant highlights and achievements. The team finished on top of the ladder after the minor round, winning a thrilling second semi-final against South Adelaide, and then winning the Grand Final against the same opponents by 5 points. South Adelaide were mighty in defeat and the result could have gone either way - my thanks go to the SANFL and Torrens University for their administration and sponsorship of the Under 18 competition. In reviewing our year, here are some of the highlights:

o We won 18 of our 20 games, including winning 17 in a row from Round 4 to the Grand Final. o Six players playing Reserves football – Jackson Mead, Jarrod Miller, Kai Pudney, Martin

Frederick, Jordan Bailey and Ryan Bruce, and of course Jack Lukosious played League Football.

o Five players were selected in the South Australian squad for the NAB under 18 Championships – Jack Lukosious, Kysaiah Pickett, Jackson Mead, Kai Pudney and Martin Frederick, with Jack, Martin and Kai all playing and assisting the team win the Australian Championship. Jack Lukosious was named as an All Australian at the completion of the Championships.

o Two players, Ben Jungfer and Deacon Braun played for the NT in the NAB Under 18 Division 2 Championships as well.

o Kysaiah Pickett and Jack Lukosious continued their membership of the NAB AFL Academy in 2018 and with the recent changes to AFL Academy structures we were pleased to have 6 players named in the SA AFL Academy Hub for 2019 – Jackson Mead, Trent Burgoyne, Lachlan McNeil, Jamie Coff and Kysaiah Pickett from our 2018 team and Taj Schofield was also named after joining our club from Western Australia. Additionally, Ben Jungfer was selected as a member of the NT AFL Academy Hub as well.

o Kai Pudney won the McCallum-Tomkins Medal for the best and fairest player in the Under 18 Competition and had a great year.

o Jack Lukosious was drafted to the Gold Coast Suns Football Club and Martin Frederick and Kai Pudney were both rookie listed to the Port Adelaide Football Club and we wish them all the very best.

o 52 players got the opportunity to play in the Under 18s team during the year and congratulations to our trophy winners for the 2018.

The coaching staff of Dean Kerrison, Dave Mazey, Mark Furler, Chris Robinson, James Warren, Darren Hams and Troy Ledo were outstanding with their energy and commitment and once again they all worked really well together. They do a great job in giving their time and efforts to the players in helping them improve their football. The Medical and conditioning staff continued to perform their high quality work in a professional and committed way. We are very fortunate to have their advice and practical assistance for the players and coaches. Kym Matthew once again did a great job as our team manager for the year, ensuring that match day ran smoothly, and our support staff continued do their jobs well –whether it is providing drinks, footies, team sheets, polos, guernsey’s shorts, socks etc –they show their commitment and care every week and we are lucky to have them as a part of our Club. Once again Darren Hams delivered a high quality development program and his continued enthusiasm for his job, his work ethic, his care for the players and staff and his support for me was brilliant. Thanks to Luke Powell, Mick Godden, Vinnie Rugolo and Brian Haraida for their support and assistance during the year and I wish Mick Godden all the best in his new role with the Adelaide Football Club. Mick has left a lasting legacy at our Football Club.

I would also like to extend a welcome to Sam Lonergan and look forward to working with him through the course of the next season. My wife Sharon and my family provided fantastic support throughout the year and that support allows me to devote time to pursue my coaching. Finally thank you to all the players who were part of 2018 – it was a great sight at Adelaide Oval on September 16th when all the players who had not been selected on Grand Final Day ran out on the ground to celebrate the premiership with their mates – it really did underline that everyone contributed to our success during the year. I look forward to 2019 and continuing to play a part in ensuring the Eagles remain a successful SANFL Club.

COACH’S REPORT - UNDER 16’s

Whilst the 2018 Under 16 Season in relation to wins wasn’t as significant as in previous years it was still enjoyable and exciting to coach a group of young players who have aspirations to play Senior Football with the Eagles or perhaps even the AFL.

Our Pre-Season Selection period started at the end of November and finished at the end of January. A squad of 36 players were selected to represent the WWTFC in the Under 16 competition for 2018. Our squad included 19 country footballers and 17 from our metropolitan zone.

Our squad played trials against Norwood and Centrals and round one was against Norwood. Whilst we were improving in each game, it wasn’t until round 6 against Glenelg where we able to break through for a win. Glenelg went on to win the Premiership for 2018. We probably should have beaten North Adelaide in the final round but unfortunately we left our run too late and we kicked poorly for goal.

Well done to Harrison Dawkins, Lachlan Jones & Caleb Poulter in being recognised by the State Under 16 selectors and were selected in the initial squad of 50. Congratulations to Lachlan Jones who made the South Australian Under 16 Team who were successful in winning the National Championships. I would also like to acknowledge Fergus Agnew, Zac Buck & Zeke Scott who received contribution awards at our Under 16 & 18 Presentation Dinner.

We are fortunate at the Eagles with our Under 16 & 18 coaching and support staff to have some outstanding people who have a passion for the players to be the best they can be. Many thanks to our coaching staff in Tony Calio, Paul Sheldon, Todd Clarke, Kym Markwick and James Schmusch for the commitment and knowledge they were able to pass onto the players. I wish to thank our medical team from Leading Edge (David Heyneman & Lachlan Hall), our trainers (John Good, Ellie Turner & Emily Zdanowicz), Team Manager (Kym Matthew) all who provide fantastic support not only to the players but to the coaching staff as well. Thank you also to our Stewards Phil Herraman, Jamie Lisk and Jamie Good who provide drinks, fruit, ensure footies are pumped up and who have a general concern for the Football Club. They do a great job in ensuring the players are well looked after. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Mike Whinnen, our Senior Head Trainer, who spends countless hours also supporting the Centre of Excellence Program.

A huge thank you to all the parents for supporting their sons throughout the program and putting up with their highs and lows and transporting them many kilometres throughout the year. To the players, hopefully you have benefited from being involved and I look forward to following your progress throughout 2019.

I would like to thank Kurt Slaven and the Board for all their support. Also to Luke Powell & Shane Reardon for all their assistance. To Michael Godden for his guidance, support and direction that he has given myself and the Eagles Football Club over the journey. I wish Mick all the best in his role at Adelaide Crows. He leaves knowing that the Club is in a good place for years to come. In closing I welcome Sam Lonergan and look forward to working with Sam as we move into our next chapter of the Football Club. Wishing you all the best in 2019. DARREN HAMS UNDER 16’s COACH TALENT MANAGER

FOOTBALL DEVELOPMENT REPORT

DEVELOPMENT TALENT SQUADS – METROPOLITAN Our U13, 14 & 15 Talent Squads consist of talented footballers from within our Metropolitan Zone as well as players who qualify under the Father/Son rule. This year’s program began in March with an induction and AFL Draft camp experience at the PAFC for invited players, in which around 110 local players attended.

After our selection period the U13, 14 & 15 Metropolitan program gave 90 players an opportunity to showcase their talents on a bigger stage. With games against West Adelaide, Central District & Norwood, players were challenged by playing against other SANFL club squads. The culmination of the squads came together in July for the Annual U15 Championships in which we played against West, South & Norwood.

I would like to thank our coaching staff for supporting our future talent. Mark Furler, Todd Clarke & Paul Dorian (U15’s), Paul Sheldon, David Mazey, Stephen Carter & Damien Angove (U14’s), Jamie Allen, Josh Hunt and Craig Bubner all of whom looked after the Under 13’s.

BUB SMITH TALENT PROGRAM - COUNTRY Our Bub Smith Program provides opportunity for the most talented Under 14 & 15 country footballers as well as a pathway into the U15 State Championships which takes place during the July school holidays. This year, 27 country players began developing their football for 2018, by participating in the program which operated during October through April. They got to test themselves in a game against West Adelaide’s country squad. Many Thanks to Ashley Green, Darren Longbottom, John Good and the Mallala & Two Wells Football Clubs in allowing us to use their facilities.

UNDER 15 INTRASTATE CHAMPIONSHIPS The Under 15 Intrastate Championships is a very important part of the SANFL talent pathway and the Club puts a lot of time & effort into making sure we provide all players selected to represent the Eagles with a positive experience and a chance to showcase their talents at SANFL level.

This year our Country & Metropolitan teams played against West Adelaide, South Adelaide & Norwood during the July school holidays. The Metropolitan team played first followed by the Country. The Metro Team were competitive throughout the week but unfortunately were unable to win a game whilst the Country Team won one of their games against West Adelaide. All players had an enjoyable week, meeting new friends and gaining an understanding of football at a SANFL League Club. These Championships play an important part in the selection of our U16 Team in 2019.

Thank you to our country coaching staff – Ashley Green & Darren Longbottom who collectively develop the lads for a higher level of footy, also to John Good who also provides great training support. Thank you to all the parents in supporting their son/s and driving many kilometres to give them an opportunity.

Thank you to our metro team in Mark Furler, Todd Clarke & Paul Dorian who coached the group. Many thanks to Mike Whinnen & his training staff who provide fantastic medical support to our Teams.

UNDER 17 YOUTH CHAMPIONSHIPS The Under 17 Youth Championships helps with the development and identification of players in regard to our Under 18 Team for the following year. These were played in the July Championships following the U15 Games. The team was coached by Dean Kerrison, assisted by Matthew Goldsworthy, Tony Calio & Kym Markwick. They played against South Adelaide, West Adelaide and Norwood, and whilst they were unable to get over the line in any of their games, they were all close and competitive encounters. These Championships give us the opportunity to identify and develop players through to our Under 18 Team in 2019.

FOOTBALL DEVELOPMENT REPORT (Cont.)

U15 & U17 FEMALE STATEWIDE SUPER SHIELD The 2018 Statewide Super Shield provided opportunity for Under 15 & 17 talented females from our zone to compete against other SANFL Club female squads. In a 4 game playing program which ran during August & September, almost 60 girls had the opportunity to wear the Eagles guernsey and play on SANFL grounds against other SANFL Teams. The U17 team finished third overall whilst the U15 team finished third in division of 4 teams.

Thank you to Anthony Forby, Carrie Anne Mewett, Barry Murphy and Jill Forby who looked after the U17 Group, whilst Georgia Taylor, Matt Noble, Bronwyn Davey and Rachel Webster provided guidance to the Under 15 Team.

PARTICIPATION Participation plays an important role within an SANFL Club, ensuring the game remains vibrant at the grass roots level along with creating community links and promotion of the Woodville West Torrens Football Club.

Scott Prebble, our Game Development Coordinator has been working diligently with schools & clubs in our Metropolitan Zone ensuring participation numbers through programs such as Auskick, SASFA Primary School and Club Football remain strong in the future.

Todd Thorne and Craig Oliphant promote the Eagles brand in our country zone as our Game Development Coordinators, supporting local Communities with football related issues. Todd works closely with the Adelaide Plains and North Eastern Football Leagues, whilst Craig works with the Yorke Peninsula Football league.

AUSKICK Auskick gives young children between the ages of 5 & 8 a football experience before entering the playing arena with a club or school. This year in our metropolitan area we have had growth in our Auskick numbers with total participants reaching 638 from 17 centres. This growth of almost 20% is credited to Scott and Phil Herden our Auskick Manager and all the volunteers in the Community who keep our game sustainable. Auskick again this year led into a new SANFL mini’s program. Congratulations to Adam Ozols from SMOSH West Lakes on being awarded the Auskick Coordinator of the year in our zone.

The Yorke Peninsula had 9 centres, with 196 participants beginning their football journey on the Yorke Peninsula. Whilst numbers were slightly down from last year Craig and all the volunteers do a fantastic job in providing country kids a pathway into club footy. The Adelaide Plains and North Eastern Football League was coordinated by Todd Thorne. The Adelaide Plains which consisted of 8 Clubs had 167 young children participating in Auskick this year. The North Eastern Football league grew to 108 across the 8 clubs and centres.

MINI LEAGUE & LITTLE LEAGUE Mini League & Little League provide opportunities to school and club teams to play on Maughan Thiem Hyundai Oval & Adelaide Oval during the half time break. Will Mockridge did a great job in ensuring Year 6 & 7 Primary School age kids had a fantastic match day experience.

Little League at Adelaide Oval gave primary school children the opportunity to experience football on a big stage. Several clubs & schools from our zone had a great opportunity to gain an AFL experience.

Colin works with the delegates from each school ensuring that the competition remains vibrant in our Zone. Again our Annual Lightning Carnival was a huge success with over 500 children getting the opportunity to play on Maughan Thiem Hyandai Oval during June.

Congratulations to Chris Catalano from Nazareth who coached the zone 6/7 team this year, playing against Glenelg and West Adelaide. The interzone program provides a Talented Player Pathway for Year 6/7 players and helps identify young talented players for our Talent Squads. I would also like to congratulate David Penberthy who coached Grange Year 6/7 team on being recognized by his peers as Coach of the Year in the SASFA Zone. Congratulations to West Lakes Shore who represented the Eagles in the Premiers Cup competition for 2018. FINANCE REPORT

2018 was another successful year financially when Board decisions made previously were finally reflected in the financial results. Although the 2018 result, along with the 2017 result demonstrates financial sustainability, it is still important to continue to work hard and strive for these results. Obtaining these good results requires a lot of hard work and commitment from the entire Eagles family. In 2018 the Club realised a combined surplus of $228,633 and a cash surplus of $354,225. FOOTBALL The Football Club ended the year with a surplus of $16,426. A huge thanks must go to Luke Powell, Michael Godden, Darren Hams and the football staff in continuing to have on-field success within a very tight budget. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Chris Branson and Matthew Goldsworthy for their work and commitment in attracting and maintaining sponsors and partners. To Melissa McKenzie, thank you for your tireless work and commitment in attracting new members, maintaining current members and managing the purchasing and sale of all the merchandise. Your commitment to our members is appreciated by all. LICENSED CLUBS The Licensed Clubs (Eagles Function Centre and Seven 22) realised a combined surplus of $212,207 for 2018. Eagles Function Centre The venue continues to attract a variety of private functions. The hard work of Madison Pett, Sam Conlon and Kuyan Hedaux has resulted in a number of new functions being held at this venue during the week and in the off-season. Madison, Sam and his committed staff continue to encourage members to attend the venue on Thursday and Friday nights and match days. The Function Centre realised a deficit of $102,286 for the 2018 financial year. The Bar came in on budget, whilst the Bistro outperformed budget projections. Thanks to Madison, Sam and his staff for their continued efforts and making everyone feel extremely welcome in this venue. Seven 22 Seven 22 realised a surplus of $314,493 for 2018 after transferring $300,000 to the Football Club. Gaming, although having been subjected to strict legislation, still continues to bring much needed funds to the Club and continues to out-perform similar venues. The bistro, whilst not making budget, continued to attract increased numbers with exciting menu changes and delicious meal. Thanks to Vicki Wright, chef Mark Giles and their staff for their hard work and commitment during the year. Vicki Wright and her staff have been working tirelessly during the year keeping the venue fresh, updating and upgrading/changing necessary assets in order to continue to make the experience for the customers as inviting as possible. To Melissa McKenzie and Michelle Diamond, a huge thank you, for always being willing and able to provide me with the help and support whenever requested. I look forward to again working closely with you both in 2019.
