Collaborating with Boces

Woodward Childrens Center specializes in educating students ages 5-21 diagnosed as emotionally disturbed.Class size is 8:1:1 and 12:1:1.Our student population is derived from Nassau, Suffolk and New York City.

The Woodward student faces many challenges.

Some students face learning disabilities in addition to emotional challenges.

Most have significant delays in education due to hospitalization, suspension and poor attendance. Most come from unstable home environments including foster care and group homes. They lack academic support. Most face financial challenges.

All have failed in a school district.

All are at risk for dropping out, drugs, alcohol, teen pregnancy, gang violence and crime.

Our technology program has been in place for 2 years. Staff implementing the program are certified in special education and an academic area, not technology. Two teachers received professional development from Boces Specialist Francine Smith and brought the training back to the Woodward faculty.Favorite Sites that are FREE and Easy to use:Windows Movie Makerhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FofPKX7UQBkUsing Prezi.comhttp://prezi.com/raj-e8z5dz2s/battle-of-midway/Prezi: A new and unique way to present materialhttp://prezi.com/ucvlznr0slym/beyonce/?auth_key=92b465563e1f5afd9470d2e7a4cee0f911e87138Toondoo: Create Cartoons, Comic Books and so much more
