Rosemary Sutcliff, and

the equally legendary

tales of King Arthur and

the Knights of the Round

Table, re-told by Marcia

Williams. Through these

exciting books we will develop our reading

and writing skills to: expand detail and de-

scription, build suspense, begin to structure

our writing into paragraphs, and practise ap-

Spelling and Punctua-

tion knowledge more

thinking about pace,

quantity, and quality.

Maths

Multiplication and Division

We will revise known multiplication and division

facts and how to apply these to solve problems.

We will also learn how to multiply 2-digit num-

bers by partitioning and recombining.

Fractions

The class will learn to recognise and calculate

with tenths, including exploring equivalent frac-

tions, and proper and improper fractions. We will

also begin to link fractions with decimal repre-

sentations, finding the effect of dividing by 10

and 100.

Measurement—money and length

We will estimate, compare and calculate money

in £ and pence, converting between units. We

will also measure and calculate the perimeter of

shapes in cm and m, converting between units,

and ordering and comparing lengths. The class

will also practise their addition and subtraction

skills in the context of measurement.

Dear Parents and Carers,

We are very pleased with how well the class has

settled back in after so long away from school.

French:

Year 4 will continue to develop their pro-

nunciation and revise colour vocabulary,

They will also practise constructing spo-

ken and written sentences.

Art and DT: Printing and Sculpting

The children will look at creating accurate print designs us-ing different colours and materials in the context of the illu-minated lettering of the Anglo-Saxon Lindisfarne manu-scripts. They will also experiment with a range of sculpting techniques to make clay pots linked to their History studies this half-term.

History: Anglo-Saxons and Scots

We will be plunging into the Anglo-Saxon period, examining how we know about Anglo-

Saxons and Scots, where they came from, and what they believed in. The class will also

compare how fighting has changed since Anglo-Saxon times, how daily life today is

different from that in Anglo-Saxon times, and explore whether life was better under the

Romans or Anglo-Saxons.

If you have any questions then please do contact us in person or through the class email address:

[email protected]

Best wishes, from the Year 4 team: Miss Paterson, Mrs Digweed, and Mrs Gilbert

PE: Basketball and Nutrition

This unit focuses on the skills or dribbling, passing and piv-

oting, including how to apply these to game situations. The

children will learn how to read the flow of a game and start

to be able to make tactical decisions.

PSHE: Valuing Difference

The class will be exploring managing conflict or differences

through negotiation and compromise, learning strategies to

deal with aggression, and how to both respect difference

and tackle stereotypes.

Computing: Coding

The class will explore coding vocabulary, represent program

designs and algorithms and create a program which responds

to commands using variables. They will program a character to

respond to user keyboard input, create a simulation, and de-

sign a decomposed feature of a real life situation.

Music: Glockenspiel

Style: Mixed

We will be developing our playing skills

using the glockenspiel, including reading

musical notation.

Science: Sound Investigators

We will investigate how sounds are made, recognising that vibrations from sounds

travel through a medium to the ear. We will identify patterns between the pitch of

sounds and the features of the object that produced it, and also between the volume

of the sound and the strength of the vibrations which produced it. We will also investi-

gate what happens to a sound as the distance from the source increases.
