� When writing a long research paper, you will likely cite numerous books, articles, and websites.A citation is a reference to an information source, and is inserted in a document in an abbrevi-ated manner.
� A source is the information needed to locate the original material referenced in a citation, andis collected at the end of a chapter or document in a bibliography.
To complete this document, you will need the following file:� w02_Citations
You will save your document as:� w02_Citations_Your_Name
1. Start Word. Locate and open the file w02_Citations. Save the file in your Word Chapter 2folder as w02_Citations_Your_Name.
2. In the paragraph that begins Front Desk Attendants transfer, click to position the insertionpoint to the right of the second quotation mark, but before the space. Click the Referencestab. In the Citations & Bibliography group, click the Style button arrow, and then clickMLA.
When you write a research paper or a report, you will usually be asked to follow a for-mat prescribed by one of the standard style guides. In this project, you will use theModern Language Association (MLA) style for the citations and the bibliography.
3. In the Citations & Bibliography group, click the Insert Citation button, and then clickAdd New Source. At the top of the displayed Create Source dialog box, click the Type ofSource arrow, and then click Book Section.
4. Fill in the following boxes, and then compare your screen with Figure 1.

5. At the bottom of the Create Source dialog box, click OK. Notice that a citation field withjust the author’s last name is added at the insertion point location.
MLA style requires that the page number be added to citations.
6. Click the Citation field, click the arrow, and then click Edit Citation. In the displayed EditCitation dialog box, under Add, in the Pages box, type 48 and then click OK. Notice thatthe page number is added without a comma, which is MLA style. Compare your screenwith Figure 2.

7. Save your document. In the following paragraph that begins The Front Desk Attendant is responsible, click to position the insertion point at the end of the paragraph. In theCitations & Bibliography group, click the Insert Citation button, and then click Add NewSource. At the top of the displayed Create Source dialog box, click the Type of Sourcearrow, and then click Book.

9. In the Create Source dialog box, click OK. Click the Citation field, click the arrow, andthen click Edit Citation. In the displayed Edit Citation dialog box, under Add, in the Pagesbox, type 14-15 and then click OK.
10. In the following paragraph, that begins Many business, in the last line, click to position theinsertion point to the right of the period that follows attendant. Using the technique youpracticed inserting the previous two citations, insert a Web site citation using the followinginformation:
11. Compare your screen with Figure 3. In the Create Source dialog box, click OK. Saveyour document. Because Web pages do not have page numbers, you do not need to add apage number to the citation.

12. Press C + e to move to the end of the document, and then press C + J to create anew page. If you have a bullet at the top of the new page, press B two times. TypeWorks Cited and then press J.
Works Cited is the MLA heading for a bibliography.
13. On the References tab, in the Citations & Bibliography group, click the Bibliography but-ton, and then click Insert Bibliography.
14. Select all of the items in the bibliography. Click the Home tab, and then in the Paragraphgroup, click the Dialog Box Launcher button . Under Indentation, click the Specialarrow, and then click Hanging.
In a hanging indent, the first line of a paragraph extends to the left of the rest of theparagraph.

15. Under Spacing, click the Line spacing arrow, click Double, and then click OK. At the topof the page, select and Center the Works Cited title. Compare your screen with Figure 4.
