Definition

RULE 1-2ART. 1 ... A diamond (or infield) shall be a 90-foot square. When measuringthe distance to first base and third base, measure from the apex of home plate tothe back edge of the base. The outfield is the area between two foul lines formedby extending two sides of the diamond. The infield and outfield,including the boundary marks from home plate to first and third and their extendedfoul lines, are fair ground. All other area is foul ground.

ART. 2 ... All lines on the playing field shall be marked with a material whichis not injurious to the eyes or skin. All non-permanent lines should be white. Limeor caustic material of any kind is prohibited.

A foul is a batted ball:a. which settles on foul territory between home and first base or betweenhome and third base; orb. that bounds past first or third base on or over foul territory; orc. that first falls on foul territory beyond first or third base; ord. that, while on or over foul territory, touches the person of an umpire or aplayer or any object foreign to the natural ground; ore. that touches the ground after inadvertently being declared foul by an umpire.
