"Petersberg Round Tables on Transboundary Waters," was launched in 1998 and

highlighted water as an opportunity for close regional cooperation from a global

perspective through a series of Round Tables.

Phase II focuses on specific challenges, such as furthering transboundary

development and conservation programmes in smaller catchment

basins of Southeastern Europe.

Main tangible results:• Towards on the ground cooperation in the Drin- Ministerial Declaration regarding the management of the Drin (Ohrid, April 2011)- Signing of a MoU, a “Strategic Shared Vision”, by the Ministers of the Drin Riparians for the management of the Drin includ ing concreted steps towards the preparation of an IWRM plan (UNECE, Swe dish EPA) for the management of the basin- Establishment of the Drin Core Group (joint coordin ation body)

• Towards structured Stakeholders Involvement in the Sava River Basin-Stakeholders Analysis and Public Participation Plan (on-going)- (possible) establishment of a Sava Partnership

• Coordination of actors (Sweden, Switzerland, Slovenia, UNDP, UNESCO) on selected basins in the field of TWRM – Strategic Partnership with UNECE and GEF
