Energy Conservation Building Code (ECBC) was drafted with an objective to improve the
energy efficiency in the buildings and infrastructure sector in India. The first version of the ECBC
was launched by the Ministry of Power (MoP), Government of India, in May 2007, as the first
step towards promoting energy efficiency in the commercial building sector having connected
load of 500 kW or Maximum demand of 600 kVA or above or 1000m2 of air-conditioned area.
During subsequent stages of discussion and amendment there-of requirements where revised to
100kW or more, or contract demand of 120kVA or more. Since then State Nodal agencies in
synergy with Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) had been building capacity of civil society for
promoting measures regarding improvement of energy efficiency under Energy Conservation
Act (EC Act) 2001.
GoMP realizes the potential growth in Commercial and building sector along with its
contribution in Indian economy. And as State Designated Agency, MPUVN has been
empowered under Section-15(a) of EC Act 2001 for amending it according, to regional
requirements and local climatic conditions of MP. MPUVN is in the process of notifying ECBC
and MP- ECBC Rules, with the help of BEE in association with the European Union along with
PwC India.
In order to sensitize Government Departments and Concerned agencies involved in
