WORKSHOP PROGRAMME

OrganisersThe workshop was initiated by Vanderlande and will be facilitated by Delft University of Technology (faculty of Industrial Design Engineering).

Contributors and speakersIATA, ACI-Europe, Vanderlande, SITA, Schiphol Group, Google and Delft University of Technology.

Who should participate?Senior management representatives from large and regional European airports, airport suppliers, airlines, handling companies and parcel express companies.

ChallengesThe continuous growth of the aviation industry creates large-scale challenges in developing the required infrastructure. Air transportation has been predicted to double in the next few decades and its impact will be felt across all continents.

In Europe, a scarcity in runway capacity will become an issue and airports will have to accommodate increased passenger, baggage and freight volumes within existing facilities. This means that European sites face a challenge concerning innovation.

Objective

The strategic ‘Baggage as a service’ workshop is conducted under the guidance of ACI-Europe, and in cooperation with the PASSME project supervised by Delft University, Vanderlande and Schiphol Group. It will focus on three key areas:

1. the development of baggage infrastructure (internal and external)2. the development of necessary IT support3. assessing future passenger demands and the role of social media

The workshop programme is geared towards identifying solutions that extend beyond existing optimisation programmes; passenger-oriented and creating innovative business models. This requires involvement from all partners in the baggage chain, including airports, airlines, handlers, IT and other service providers.

This workshop aims to develop a strategic baggage innovation agenda with a long-term view, resulting in a baggage action plan for both ACI-Europe and the industry.
