    CONTEXT & HISTORYMISSION

Rock Salt mine of Loul started its miningexploration in the late 50s of the XIX century inthe East part of the city of Loul and promotingthe surrounding urban development of the

named Campina Area for its workers. That areahold the best land for the agriculture proposesdo to its richness and the abundance of water.

The groundwater level is very high.

The mining exploration is is located at 140

meters bellow the ground level and its product ismainly used for both residential and municipallyfor managing ice. Because brine (a solution ofwater and salt) has a lower freezing point than

pure water, putting salt or saltwater on ice thatis near 0 C (32 F) will cause it to melt. Theresan additional interest in the medicinal area:the quality of the air in the rocksalt mine has

good medicinal properties to prevent and treatpulmonary diseases.

The management of a complementary area inthe eld of health and tourism are seen as highexpectation.

Halite;commonly known as rock salt, is the mineral formof sodium chloride (NaCl). Halite forms isometriccrystals. The mineral is typically colorless or white, but may alsobe light blue, dark blue, purple, pink, red, orange, yellowor gray depending on the amount and type of impurities. It commonly occurs with other evaporite deposit minealssuch as several of the sulfates, halides, and borates.

The core idea is to develop a workshop-based

project, to explore alternative urban scenariosto the area of the Rock Salt Mine in the city ofLoul. Programming, building , urban designand landscape design should be tools to open up

new possibilities towards the imagination of thefuture of the city.We aim to respond to the idea of reinventing

urban relationships and create a new centralityfor the city.

This generic topic desires to embrace the

    following aairs : Urban regeneration

    Programming for complementarity and urbandiversity

Lifestyle and quality of life Landscape as a generator of awareness of

    the industrial production Regional atractiveness
