Dan Sato, 24, was born in Japan and raised in Hawaii, and he hopes to eventually teach piano to pass on hisknowledge.

Pedro Zenteno, 20, is from Santiago, Chile, describes playing the piano is an ambiguous addiction that he loves.

"It's a mix of enjoyment, deep spiritual connection, I'd say, and also, like, very high stress points," he said.

The festival continues with classes and recitals through August 4. Next year the festival will include a $10,000competition. The money will be allocated for a student's tuition.
