Vision:

To globally facilitate Continence Awareness and promotion to improve health, wellness and quality of life.

Mission:

To provide a forum for those seeking information on Continence promotion and therapies

To create a network of events and organisations that will be recognised as

leading authorities of Continence and Bladder Health information

To further establish Continence Awareness and promote a multidisciplinary approach to treatment.

Vision:World Continence Day is a global initiative to address the increasing needs of 200 million people across the world who suffer from the often silent problem of incontinence.

This initiative seeks to draw attention towards the communities and groups in both developed and developing countries for whom access to quality healthcare still remains a distant dream.

The campaign’s principal motto is: ”continence care for everyone, especially the disadvantaged and the vulnerable”. This motto appropriately reflects the cardinal purpose of the campaign to globally facilitate Continence Awareness and promotion to improve health, wellness and quality of life.

Appearance by Dr. Terry Mason, MD FACS, Chicago’s Public Health CommissionerPossibly designating the week as “Official World Continence Week” per a proclamation Small speech recognizing participating organizations and the need to help generate awareness for continence

Ask the Doc / Nurse Kiosks manned by leading doctors, nurses, and specialists in adult, pediatric and geriatric continence care

“Ask and You Shall Receive” raffle – participating results in a prize, some of value and some not

Celebrity autograph signing

Possible media partner (CBS Radio, WGN, FOX, etc.) to help drive awareness

Information Kiosk for online inquiries, brochures, educational booklets, buttons, giveaways, etc

Emcee/music to help bring onlookers into the event

Bladder diaries, handouts and other information passed out to audience via a street team

Paya Lebar Kovan CC – 14 June 2009200 people attended the public forum on 14 June 2009. The event was opened by Member of Parliament, Ms Cynthia Phua. Dr Wong, a Gynecologists from KK Women and Children’s Hospital delivered the talk in Mandarin and Dr Pearllyn Quek, Urologist from Mt Alvernia Hospital in English.

The highlight of the event was the “Diaper Fashion Catwalk”. Ten female contestants took part in this Fashion Show and top three winners were given cash vouchers sponsored by SCA Hygiene.

22-27 June 2009 - Exhibition

KK Women’s & Children’s Hospital had the exhibition at the main foyer of the Women’s tower. Educational Posters on Incontinence were put up and a blood pressure screening and diabetes stick screening throughout the whole week. The highlight of the exhibition was the Mascot and the DJ. Some 170 people visited the exhibition area.

Singapore General Hospital held its exhibition at the Urology Centre throughout the week. Some 200 people visited the stands.

Tan Tock Seng Hospital had 240 visitors in one day, as the exhibition was held only on 24 June 2009.

Changi General Hospital pulled out from the project due to H1N1 pandemic.

SunTec City Convention Hall – 27 June 2009

Public Forum on incontinence was held at Suntec City Convention Centre on 27 June 2009. The forum was held in English and Mandarin. The English session was attended by 170 people and the Mandarin session was attended by 180 people. Drs Christopher Chong, Tricia Koh, Arthur Tseng, Eileen Tan and Physiotherapists Li Ming Juan and June Chew talked on Urinary Incontinence and Pelvic Floor Management.

All the participating Hospitals and product companies put up exhibition stalls for public and educational materials were made available for the crowd.

• This is used to commemorate, promote and mobilize for action.

• It also presents a written report about the event. This summarizes the activities that took place around the world under the auspices of the international observance, and makes recommendations for the future

• Minutes of Berlin proclamation and endorsed by representatives of member countries and supported by ICS board

World continence week – Ideal month

• Suggested - April, May, June, July (best)

• All over the world weather may be moderate and no major holidays

• August – September not good as may have ICS meet

• Starts from Sunday of the month – better to have first sunday

• To promote and create awareness among general people, adminitrators, govt agencies and sufferers

• Prevention is better than cure, early stages of awareness will promote a healthy lifestyle

• The objective was to promote healthy lifestyle habit among the public as a preventive measure towards achieving good health and prevention
