“I have a very distinguished opinion about the Occupational Therapists and their
vital role in patient care. As Orthopaedic Surgeons, we try to correct the altered
anatomy, Physiotherapists put their efforts to bring the physiology back, while the
Occupational Therapists are at the last tier of fruitful delivery of patient’s
occupation back in their hands…..the ‘Zenith of Rehabilitation’!
Occupational Therapists are the pillars of Rehabilitation in Spine speciality.
Paraplegics are doing wonders with their help!”

“Occupational Therapists play a very important role in the overall management of
orthopaedic patients. They use a holistic approach in planning various
programme, taking into account the physical, social, emotional, sensory, and
cognitive abilities and needs of the patients. They not only improve the patient’s
abilities to perform daily activities but also facilitate successful adaptations to
disruption in lifestyle.”

“Work Related Musculoskeletal Disorder (WRMSD) is a chronic issue faced by people employed by the ITeS industry. People who sit on their chair for long hours staring at computer screens are prone to develop WRMSD. Our young workforce, which is largely associated with the IT & ITeS industry, faces this issue currently. Occupational Therapy is one way you can lead a healthy lifestyle while continuing with your work routine. It is the need of the hour and everyone should take advantage of it. After all, a healthy workforce is the biggest asset a company can have. Today, many companies have engaged professional therapists to provide preventive health education to their employees. Our experience with the Occupational Therapist has been amazing, with employees insisting on increasing the frequency of the sessions.”

“I had consulted Dr. Solanki in 2013 in connection with a spinal issue. I found her
extremely attentive and educative as regards the treatment prescribed. Her
approach to her consultancy as regards Do’s and Don’ts is very meticulous. I have
recommended several of my friends to her subsequently and each and every one
has echoed similar feedback post consulting with her. I wish Dr. Solanki well for all

From a Therapist’s
perspective
“Myself, as an Occupational Therapist, believe that a detailed awareness and
education of the patient , about his/her health condition, is mandatory after the
initial thorough assessment of the patient as a whole, from his/her physical,
mental, social and environmental perspective. The formal treatment session
should always begin after these initial vital steps of assessment and education.
Timely treatment approach should be based on the principle of “perfect practice
makes man perfect”, “prevention is better than cure”, and “do no harm”
Later, everything will flow in a correct order in the right path of recovery ahead.”

The theme of this year’s “World Occupational Therapy Day” celebrations
in India is Accessibility@OT India
Yes, access to home environment during all aspects of activities of daily living, work and
leisure, access to work environment, access to any outdoor environments such as shopping
malls, theatres, museums, libraries, etc. and access to play or leisure environment is of
utmost importance for successful accomplishments of any tasks.
However, access to the services of Occupational Therapy and awareness of the same, is the
first step to dealing with these issues. Target Indian population should be well aware about
the role of an Occupational Therapist in resolving problems related to access…..!!!!!
